Price Paid:  $400.00 from Good Guys Sydney

Summary:
I have found the Marantz SR4400 to be a nice amp with a good range of controls and customisation options.

Strengths:
- clean, powerful amplification - although I haven't pushed the amp to its limits.
- good-looking (I have the silver finish).

Weaknesses:
- doesn't give control over sub-woofer crossover frequency, and the manual doesn't even list what the fixed crossover frequency is
- amp doesn't switch off automatically when not in use (eg no input signal received for some time)
- doesn't have Dolby Pro Logic IIx which is needed to create a 6th channel from the widely-used Dolby 5.1 encoding - so my rear surround speaker is wasted on the majority of movies!

Similar Products Used:
my previous amp was a 110W/channel stereo Denon
