Review 2 of 5

Summary:
I had been experimenting over a period of 6 months with various borrowed balanced cables to find a good synergy with my Krell 300cd, Krell KRC-HR and Krell 250m monoblocs.

The 1120s blew the competition away right out of the box and have been improving ever since. I am not convinced they a re fully run in. In my system these have all the correct quantities of brightness (without sibilance - Red Dawn), bass (almost missing in the Wireworld), transparency and musicality (lacking somewhat in the Pro Silway and Neutral Reference). Music, instruments and voices seems real and just right.

The 1120 is a silver/copper hybrid using essentially the technology as Kimber's top of the range (read exhorbitant) Black Pearl (1130). The connectors are good quality silver and the build quality is generally up there with the best. They come in a solid aritight box which Kimber claims can be used for photographic equipment. A nice touch but I would have settled for $100 off the price!

These are truly fit and forget cables in the right system.

Strengths:
Fantastic out of the box and then carry on improving; soundstage; silence; a sense that everything is right; build

Weaknesses:
Wonder if they would be cheaper if it supplied without the airtight box

Similar Products Used:
Silver Streak; Cardas Neutral Reference; MIT 330 proline; Wireworld (various); Harmonic Technology Pro Silway; Nordost Red Dawn

Review 3 of 5

Summary:
When I moved from single-ended to balanced cables I swapped the previously excellent KS-1010 to KS-1120. I use two runs, 0.5m between DAC and preamp and 3m between preamp and power amp.
They sounded good from new, but after three weeks something amazing started to happen: the speakers just disappeared. Amazing three-dimensionality and spatial presentation. Stunning deep and tight bass. Wonderful cables, especially after burn-in.

Strengths:
Neutrality, dynamics, three dimensionality

Weaknesses:
Price

Review 4 of 5

Summary:
I use two lengths 0.5m CD to pre-amp and a lengthy 5m pre-amp to power amp.

After several other long cables ( Goertz, Klotz, etc.)I was astounded at how right this cable sounded straight out of the box. Plug it in and be happy. It makes all other cables I have heard in these roles sound coloured or otherwise deficient. If it sounds wrong then I can only suggest that it's revealing a fault elsewhere in your system. I have used it in a couple of component combinations other than my full time rig and it sounded just as good. Loadsamoney though and really only suitable for pricey systems.

The shorter length compared to the longer one sounds just the same ( not always the case with other cables in different lengths when the comparison involves such disparate ones).

The build quality is also first class. Practical and actually un-tweaky ( if anything in this category can be so considered).

Strengths:
Timbral neutrality, seamlessness,detail,internote silence,dynamics

Weaknesses:
Cost

Kimber 1020
