Review 2 of 8

Price Paid:  $2000.00 from Homezone Digital Wor

Summary:
After auditioning many loudspeakers... for the sound quality and money these were by far the most impressive and suited my listening preferences. Also incredible aesthetics with cherry. Downwards firing sub, works well, but speaker needs to be around 50-70cm from wall. Will show up flaws in your recordings and amplification, but is exceptional with DVD-A and good amplification and matching cables. Initially: Marantz sr8000 Marantz dv7000 Monster Digital Interconnect Monster Z1 Speaker Cable Finally: Marantz SR8000 Panasonic DVDRA71 DVD Audio Player QED silver Anniversary Speaker cable(tweeter) Marantz MA6010 Mono blocks x2(driving tweeter) Monster Z1 Speaker Cable (driving mid and bass) Monster interlink 400 for 5.1 out on DVD-A BIG DIFFERENCE!

Strengths:
Siutable for people who listen to a wide range of genere's. Excellent build quality, second to none. Very clean, punchy bass. NO BOOM. Open sound stage. Very beautiful, slim, elegant design. You will hear nuances in your music collection that were previously non-existent. EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY. Giant Killers.

Weaknesses:
Reliant on high quality amplication. Accurate and extensive placement is necessary, though the end result is well worth it. Need to choose speaker cable carefully. Bi-Amplification makes an enormous difference and opens and clarifies the sound stage.

Review 3 of 8

Price Paid:  $1200.00 from Audio Advisor

Summary:
These are not the best sounding speakers I have listend to, but for the price they are amazing. I have read that some think the mid and highs are tiresome and harsh, but what really makes these speakers compare to Vandersteens, and Kef Reference 2 and below is the equipment. Amps that are low in power and current do not give these speakers justice. I am using a Parasound HCA 3500 Amp to drive these speakers. With Pioneer Elite PD 65 CD Transport and Camelot D/A convertor. I am also using Kimber Cable PBJ inner-connects and KCAG speaker cables. By wire these speakers, this will allow your amp to control this speaker better. You will hear a big difference in sound clarity and precision with an Amp like the HCA 3500. Lessor quality amps will work, but you will not be able to turn up the speakers without hearing the flaws in your equipment. By the way the speakers are just beatiful, but need constant cleaning to maintain the nice rosewood finish. I used to own a pair of Kef Reference 3's and loved them and they do sound better than the Jamo 7.6, but remember that they also cost about 3 to 4 times the amount. For the price they are unbeatable, but you must (absolutely a must) have a strong amp with lots of power and current to truely hear what these 7.6's can do. Last but not least to great equipment is placement in the room.

Strengths:
Great sound stage and clarity, very good precision and detail, above average bass.

Weaknesses:
Small amps will lose control of this speaker fast, although Jamo states 150 max power handling, I find that at least 250 to be the magic number when looking for definition and detail.

Similar Products Used:
Kef Reference 3, Kef 4 Q Series, Aerial 10T (by far the best speaker I think), Denon POA S-10 Mono Blocks and Pre-Amp, Macintosh CD Transport, AudioQuest Blue Series cabling.

Review 5 of 8

Price Paid:  $1300.00

Summary:
This is the best looking and best sounding speakers I ever had. No wonder it won the Australian award for the best speaker in year 2000. The detail at the top is stunning and I can not descibe it better than "SOUND and IMAGE" of AUS
"Performance across the midrange and into the high frequencies was simply superb. We could not have wished for superior performance. Singers both male and female were renderd to perfection, their every subtle vocal nuance clearly audible."..."at even higher frequencies the tweeter returned a clear balanced performance..yet transparent without any sign of being forced" Of the bass they said "bass performance was very good...maintaining a pure even tone quality with ...good impact" I like the bass tightness and slam with fast demanding music like in FOURPLAY,s Jazz music..This is truly and exciting speaker for music. I only added the Jamo sub 3015 (also the award winner for the best sub in year 2000 in AUS)for hometheater which fills in the final low octave below 40HZ. Highly recomended for all types of music and hometheater.

Strengths:
superb sound, beautiful design, high efficiency, clear detail at the top end

Weaknesses:
none

Marantz MA-9S2 Reference Series Power Amplifiers Review

Marantz MA-9S2 Power AmplifierThe list above has one tenet that I continue to hold true: high powered amplifiers are necessary to reproduce the full dynamic range of music with most speakers. This became apparent when I changed from the 100 Watt per channel Bella Extreme 100 to the 250 Watt.....

The unit arrived from China well packed and everything seem to be in place. No external abuse by the carriers. The only problem was the power supply it came with. The box came with a cheap step-down converter.
