from Thrift store Summary: Picked up a pair of these at a local thrift store, mostly on the Celestion name. When I got them home I was pleasantly surprised. Clean, extended bass with an excellent midrange. Metal dome tweeters are very detailed and accurate. A slight metallic hiss may be audible on some cymbal tones, but this is hardly noticeable and certainly not distracting. The dynamics and transient response of the tweeters far overshadows this minor niggle. Overall: fantastic. It's a vented design, but it never sounds boomy or unnatural. If you find a pair, jump on them - they seem to be relatively rare, but make sure the metal dome tweets are undamaged. They're relatively fragile. Strengths: Excellent sound, good drivers, good binding posts. Weaknesses: Tweeters can occasionally sound metallic with certain material. Cabinets feel like they could be a bit heavier, and the vinyl wrap they are finished with looks cheap. Celestion spent its money where it counts though: the sound.
