Review 2 of 21

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
These speakers really look stunning,I have the cherry finished model and really look beautiful with the usual B&W quality finish. The speakers have some very good qualities, are crystal clear in the midrange in the typical B&W fashion, for the size of them I was expecting more bass and was quite suprised at how low they didn't actually go!! I find them to be quite lean and this is in a small room, a result the quite suprised me. But my biggest niggle is that they sound bright bright bright, its quite relentless the extreme top end that can prove to be fatiguing over extended listening periods like it's trying too hard and giving too much detail, especially on pop music,on classical I didn't find it so noticable. They image reasonably well and can place the vocals in the centre of the mix and give of little hidden effects which ither speakers would probably miss. All in all a good speaker, brilliant?no,not in my opinion, the treble just lets it down a bit too much for me.

Strengths:
lovely midrange,clear vocals.

Weaknesses:
bright fatiguing treble

Review 4 of 21

Price Paid:  $0.00 from AudioT West Hampstea

Summary:
Many years ago I had Spendor BC1s, with a wonderfully clear mid-range. Looking for better bass, I changed them for Epos ES14s - big mistake, with an edgy mid-range. As a pre-retirement present to myself I decided to upgrade most of the system and spent some time listining to floor-standing speakers. The (then discontinued) P6s were clearly the best, with Spendor-like clarity and really deep bass. I'm now moving to the latest Arcam amplification, which looks like allowing the P6s to give of their best - no plans to change them for the foreseeable future.

Strengths:
Marvellous mid-range clarity, tremendous volume (if you need it) from a slim box, great looks with no need to remove the grille cloth.

Weaknesses:
Slightly recessed extreme top-end; bass (ported) is full but lacks the bottom 20-40Hz.

Review 5 of 21

Price Paid:  $1600.00 from Audio Etc.

Summary:
As an industrial designer, I can appreciate well conceived integration of materials, function, and beauty...and these speakers are that in a nutshell.
I have the natural cherry finish, and they are used as the fronts in my home theater system... and they hold their own against any fine furniture in the house. Beveled sides and separate elegant egg-shaped tweeter give it a classic B & W look. Their narrow, but tall (41"h) profile blend perfectly into the room. Very high wife approval rating.

Gorgeous clean midrange that is fast and free of clutter no matter how involved the music or movie sountrack is. Instrument renditions are true and precise; making noticing their individual timbres and subtleties continually enjoyable. Feed them clean power and they sing!

They may not have Matrix caliber internal bracing, but the P6 is essentially two vertically mounted cabinets sharing one box...with upper section Kevlar midrange driver having its own vented port, as well as the Cobex bass driver having one below. This configuration coupled with the sweet looking top mounted tweeter gives these speakers a wonderful spread out room-filling warm quality that I love.

They are intoxicating if you like classical music, power symphonies, and soundtracks. Rock and jazz sound great with these speakers. Female vocals are absolutely fantastic. Horn and string sections come alive, percussion is fast and tight with very convincing bass( down to 42 hz ). If you like your music to have a high or low "signature"...with thundering slow annoying bass to fortify your manhood or you require tinny ear-piercing highs then these are NOT the speaker for you.

Conclusion: I think these are truly magnificent "sleeper" B & W speakers for the money... that even after 5 years continually amaze me with their performance!

Current System Profile:
Marantz SR-96 THX AV receiver
(soon to upgrade to Rotel RMB-1095 200w x5 amp)
Marantz DP-870 Dolby Digital Processor
B & W Nautilus HTM 2 center
M & K SS-150 tripole surrounds
Sunfire True Subwoofer
MIT terminator 4 bi-wire interfaces

Strengths:
Beautiful looks, incredible imaging, amazing vocals presence and separation, clarity, monitor-like neutrality, timeless design styling and build quality. Haven't heard anything near this price that sounds as good as these, or has the "grille's-off" elegant contrast of quality materials and real wood beauty of these babies!

Weaknesses:
A poor man's Nautilus 804
