Excesivo ruido de fondo, aunque desaparece a volumen mínimo y no intercede con la música. (aparentemente).

Para música culta , junto con mis queridas Sependor SP/2, es de lo mas cálido
al igual que con mi amplificador a válvulas.
El sonido es cálido pero sin perder detalle, mucho brio y dinámica que hacen del conjunto un competidor serio para cualquier combinación de alta gama.
Lástima que aparatos así no se fabriquen.

needs good speakers, cables and biwiring for top performance

Get some decent dance music and biwire some good mission or b&W speakers and you will be on the edge of your seat when listining, base is amazingly clean accurate and full. Music sounds so dramatic and detailed. The main thing i noticed was imense sterio seperation, you hear little bits of songs firing from the left speaker to the right with imense precision. This amp is perfect for DJ's it allows you to hear so much more and more accuratly than standard mass produced sony or phillips. I never really cared about sound quallity until I went to a friends house and heard music through this amp, 2 months later i got rid of my sony amp and i replaced it with this. The most common mistake that produces over bloated and crap sounding base is when you have speakers with the base port (where the air comes out) in the rear up against the wall. If you want the best sound from this amp make sure if you have rear firing ports in speakers that there a good distance from the wall. I have also improved the cables. This amp is discontinued now which is a shame in one way but it also means you can get them for a bargin second hand.

This was my third amp after many years with a Rotel 840 and a Quantum 102/202. The build quality on the Aura amp is excellent though the phono stage has failed and I now use a Creek OBH 8 with better results. I am intrigued as to why the amp runs hot because as far as I know it does not use class A switching. One of its best tricks is to allow proper bi-wiring at the amp end as well as the speaker connection. Soundwise, it has a big and controlled sound and enough power to seriously worry your neighbours. Even though it is black it avoids looking like all the other black boxes because of its high gloss fascia and dserves to be sited on its own away from anything that you do not want to melt. I still use this amp for stereo duties despite having an Arcam FMJ A22/P25 pre and power (which is used for home cinema). I listened to the two for stereo and whilst the Arcam in bi-amp mode bettered the Aura, I could not justify wasting the home cinema capabilities of the Arcam, so the Aura will carry as the mainstay of the stereo. It proved more than capable of living with more esoteric kit when I plugged in an Arcam FMJ CD23. Its moderately bass heavy presentation can be tamed with bass tight speaker designs e.g. tansmission line or sealed enclosures. Avoid bass heavy ported designs as these will not suit the Aura. I use B&W P4s which have a very fast and dry bass (probably not co-incidental that B&W are ideal for the Aura)

Bought this thing in 1993 (!) and used it on a frequent base since then up to December 2002 without any problems. Sure, the thing gets hot, but even longer playing doesn't affect the amp. Instead, it has a great, warm sound (used it with Focal Speaker Kits, first with the AURA Cd-Player, later with the Sony DVP-NS 900 SACD Player. I just replaced it (for surround reasons) with the Harman Kardon AVR 5500, and although the Harman is great, for Stereo purposes the Aura still sounds so much better, speaking of clearness, bass volume, dynamics and especially warmness. This wasn't humid Hong Kong but dry Germany, and for the "cold" middle european user this is best buy!

Drop dead gorgeous looks and decent build quality. Soundstaging is quite literally awesome. Balance is good with healthy, supply of bass, warm mid-range and the sweetest ''dolce'' treble for miles!

Bass can be a little flabby - use tight speakers. Gets very warm, but this isn''t really a problem - it''s designed that way.

If you''re after sound for your pound, then go no further. Discontinued now, but if you find a nice used one at a good price, jump on it! Listen first though (sorry to hear about reliability issues - none for me). Also, consider the VA80SE-x - it''s worthy little brother (I used this as a power amp for rear home cinema speakers. Surprisingly, plenty of power)! Minimalist design places emphasis on high quality key components. Beautiful looks and sound to match. Runs warm, but that''s not a problem. For the best sound, leave it on, it''ll heat your room!

no control in the bass

I recently swapped my Acurus DIA 100 MK II with a friend in Germany for his AURA VA 100 MK II.

First I have to say that his model was a 220 Volts only model and could not be adjusted to 110 Volts. So I used it for a while with a large step up transformer.

I imediately heared a nice, warm, sweet, 3 D sound from the Aura, similar to a good tube amp.
However, I was very troubled with the loose control of the bass. I'm not sure if this was a problem I had because I used a step up transformer or if this was the real sonic footprint of this amp.

Well, I called Michael Percy and ordered me some 2 Nichicon 10,000 uf Goldeb Caps and 4 IXYS diods and a 225 VA (110/220 Volts) torodial transformer.

I than took the really small sized power caps out and replaced them with the Nichicons and also replaced the recifier bridge with 4 IXYS Freds. And I also replaced the torodial transformer. Cost about $ 200.

Since this amp is a flatline design I really had to sqush these parts into the amp.

Now I believe I really have a wonderful sounding amp, which builds on the strenght it allready had and it added a wonderful controlled bass to it.

I had planned to get an integrated tube amp somewhere down the road, but since I made the upgrade to it, I really don't believe that another amp change is necesarry.

P.S. Be careful when making these mods, since some of the soder spots tend to come loose. I had several soder spots I had to re-soder. A pain in the a....

Warm gutsy value for $ AMP

Has been a pain in the butt. Owned for 5 years. Have finally dumped it in exasperation as it had blown resistors and power transformer on 4 different occasions. Tended to overheat as the casing may have been too small and ventilation insuffcient.

Initially a very pleasing buy. Had some good music listening.Warm, full sound with BMW 600 i speakers and Arcam CD player.Played range of music including Indie guitar bands to Bach. It's smoothness seemed to sit better with the classical and jazz. But the unit became unreliable after 3 years of medium use at only half volume. Some suggestion of design fault but difficult to know. Possibly 3 humid Hong Kong summers were too much. Would be interested to hear if any one else struck the same problems with the model. I understand it is out of producton now.

1980`s technics mid sizer.

Aura is currently in transition, being sold by B&W to the US company Aura Systems, consequently there are bargains to be had with the old kit. I have just purchased a VA100 integrated amp for £230, reduced from £450.
The build quality of the amp is superb, slim in design with a mirror black front, quality switches, chunky gold plated terminals round the back, with two sets of speaker terminals for bi-wiring.

Used with Marantz CD75, Monitor Audio R352MD's, the sound quality is excellent, very detailed and airy, with a warm substantial base. There is absolutely no shortage of power neither. I have a slight problem using the amp neer my Rega Planer 3 turntable, in that the cartridge now picks up mains hum from the amp, which it did't do with my old NAD amp. I have had to move them physically apart to reduce the effect, which can now only be detected at higher volume levels in the quiet bits.

Overall a splendid bit of British kit, at a bargain price. Do check out the other amps in the range, the shop I bought mine from were selling the fantastic pre-power amp at £600 (reduced from £1500).

This amp is very good with jazz vocalists, I actully A/B compared itwith Jolida DJ 202A and Bryston B-60, these amps certainly outperform
Aura VA100 in certain area, like the mid of Jolida and the refinement
of Bryston, but I still prefer Aura overall(I have tried to upgrade
it all the time), after listened it for 3 yrs, I think the review
written by the HK audio magzine is very true(best-buy award of 94).
5 stars because I will still keep it.
