from etronics Summary: Well it may be six years later but as I posted under my prior id davidwilliam, I would be back!!!!!!
Still got 2 of these babies, and it is sad to hear the great AR is out of business. I even took these two centre channels and hooked them up under left and right normal sterio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God these speakers rock!!!
I recently bought a pair of klipsch referecence RF 5. When i originally bought the AR2C it was a comparison between the AR and Klipsch center. The AR seemed much better value, and even with two pairs of RF 5 mains, i must still agree the AR is one great speaker.
I love my new klipsh, but its very sad to see AR go. I guess they never charged enough money for the speakers they sold. With my high quality high output amps, i never came close to blowing the tweeters in the AR tweeters, even at 160.00 watts per channel, and using them as left and right mains!!!!.
I guess the ARs must not be well suited for those with cheaper amplification and downstream components, so apparently many blew there tweeters. Strengths: STill everything Weaknesses: none Similar Products Used: klipsh rf 5

from Soundpros.com Summary: This is a great center channel. Crisp tweeter and two good performing midranges. The AR2C compliments the other AR high-res speakers very well. I use the AR5's for front's, AR9's for rears and AR4C for center rear. The one concern is that the tweeter is easily blown, so be careful when you calibrate your receiver. Overall, a great performing speaker, good rich bass and crisp highs. Strengths: Rich bass, crisp highs and midrange perform well. Weaknesses: Tweeter is easily blown. AR recently went bankrupt, but they are still honoring their 5 year warranties. Unfortunately, you have to personally remove the damaged part and ship it to AR. Similar Products Used: Bose & Sherwood speaker systems.

from Accesories4less.com Summary: A very full sounding center channel speaker with innovative design features. Utilyses a downfiring slotted 6-1/2" woofer, 2 5 1/4" mid-ranges and a 1" titanium dome tweeter. Can hear excellent base and much clearer voices with this setup. Separating the base from the midrange really opens up the sound. Other manufactures feature two base drivers and one midrange in theri 3-way setups which misses the main function of a center channel speaker, which is to clearly hear voices. Strengths: Super design, good build construction and components, great full sound without the base muddying the sound from the mid-ranges. Great price! Retails for $499. Weaknesses: None. Some have said thisis too big, but I find it perfectly sized for a center that provides 60%+ of the overall sound from a surround system. Similar Products Used: Infinity, JBL

from etronics Summary: I purchased two of these and can't wait to hear the hi-res comeback by AR. With two over 5 mids, tweeter, and a base driver Loaded the way this one is, one can argue its like a sub. I noticed its size and consider this a plus, vs the other centres that look like plastic toys, ready to fly to mars. Obviously a very attractive unit, and made to last. Strengths: Size is excellent, 12 inch deep, is really no big deal, makes it excellent for ceiling hanging installation. Weaknesses: I honestly do not think it has any, but I will post if i find any. from CDW Summary: Sounds great! Nice bass, made SACD multichannel recordings come alive. Now I want new surrounds. Strengths: Clear sound, much bass, mid and high switches allow you to tailor the sound to match other speakers. Weaknesses: Huge and heavy, about 35#. Had to build a support so it wouldn't slip off of the top of the TV, 36" direct view. Similar Products Used: This replaces an AR 252C, but it's heads above that in sound, size (and price).
