Review 1 of 21 Summary: I actually own a CN36G97. TV worked great for 2 yrs then just died. Unit clicks twice, red LED power light comes on, but tube never fires up. I received poor/no response from Toshiba and the retailer (unit is just out of warranty). Its going to cost me $$$ to get this pile of crap fixed. Make sure you buy from someone who will stand by their products. Strengths: Picture, I/O options Weaknesses: Durability, manufacturer support. Similar Products Used: Sony 27" trinitron - 8 yrs old, still works great.

Review 2 of 21 Summary: I have finally gotten rid of my CN36H97. I have used the set for 6 months and the moire was there since day one. After installing the update kit, the moire was still there. Dealing with the service centers was truamatic. It felt like they were doing me a favor to come service my set. Luckily, Toshiba was nice enuf to take the set back. Although this set is no longer in production, I still see it sold online as a closeout. Please stay away from this set unless u have the patience to deal with service techs. So far I only heard 2 guys having positive results after installing the update kit. Strengths: Toshiba customer service Weaknesses: Moire and local service centers

Review 3 of 21 Summary: I purchased this set in 10-99 and had the same moiré pattern problem. United Audio where I purchased it said they had never heard of this problem before. Their repair Tech contacted Toshiba and ultimately installed the fix. In my case it did work and the moiré pattern is now gone. As a result I am now very satisfied with the TV. Strengths: Excellent color and lots of features. Weaknesses: Slow channel/video switching is annoying.

Review 4 of 21 Summary: I searched long and hard for a top of the line tv. Hometheater mag gave this tv a excellent review and that is why I bought it. I purchase the toshiba cn36h97 in dec. 98. I noticed the strange lines which I found out later was the moire shortly after I purchased but thought it was my cable or vcr. I finally got my dvd player and it really was apparent. called toshiba about the problem and they denied knowing about it. Yea right! They finally shipped the dynamic focus kit which was going to fix this moire problem. We'll my service tech came over today 2-2-00, installed the kit ,which I already knew wouldn't work. And yes I didn't. The tech said he noticed absolutely no change. I then told him that I had read where you can defocus the set slightly and rid the problem. He did this and yes it eliminated the moire but ever so slightly soften the picture. I just floors me that Toshiba crapped on the consumer. They knew about this when they made the set but this didn't matter i guess. Happy hunting for the perfect set. Strengths: Component video input, sharp picture Weaknesses: The dreaded moire problem, very slow video and channel switching. Similar Products Used: Panasonic 31"

Review 5 of 21 Summary: I had a Toshiba CN36G97 that had the infamous moire problem. Toshiba took the set back. I had a service call done on the TV by a Toshiba authorized service center but it didn't solve the moire problem and I was also told I was too picky, to turn sharpness way down and live with it. I don't think so... I was on the phone with Toshiba Customer Service the next day.
I had Dale of the Toshiba Customer Service Department assigned to my case. I had contacted them via the 800 # on their website. When I explained the problem to Dale he was immediately aware of the moire problem with many of their 36" TVs and setup to refund me the $$. The funny thing is he said they wouldn't replace the set because there's no guarantee the replacement wouldn't have the moire problem. Does Toshiba have a quality control department??
I faxed in my purchase receipt to them and a couple of weeks later a shipping company they use contacted me to make an appointment to pickup the TV. The shipping company wrapped the TV in heavy blankets and hauled it away. I had a check from Toshiba in about another 4 weeks.
