Review 1 of 4

Price Paid:  $1000.00 from Best Buy

Summary:
Toshiba 36AF61 is such a great t.v. I've gotten so many compliments since I purchased it. Even though it's really heavy, the features and quality more than makes up for it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade.

Strengths:
My house has become the official "theater" for friends and family. Great picture, sounds, stylish, and worth every penny.

Weaknesses:
It's really heavy.

Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $1100.00 from best buy

Summary:
Again, this review is for the Toshiba 36af62 tv. I allready own a 27" flat Toshiba and was looking to upgrade. First, I looked at the Panasonice 36" flat but the colors didn't seem as solid and bright as the Toshiba. Then I looked at the 36" Sony. The Sony had many good features, especially the 16:9 squeeze. It also uses aperture grille technology which many people say produces brighter colors. Sony also had more input jacks. The picture quality of the Sony looks better than the Toshiba, but sometimes, it looks digitized. You can actually see the pixelation. If it werent for the pixalation, I wouldve chosen the Sony. The Toshiba looked the best to me. I know that the tvs in stores share 1 coax connection, so I asked the guys to individually hook up a portable dvd player using just composite cables. All 3 tvs looked very good, but in the end, I had to settle with the Toshiba because I've had good luck with Toshiba products.

Strengths:
I like the speakers on the side because it makes the tv look much bigger than it actually is. The setup menu is very very easy to use. The front input jacks allow for easy connection with a camcorder or game console. The top of the tv is flat, allowing for a fairly big center channel speaker to fit, whereas the Sony slopes down. There is a pretty good feature with pip where it allows 5 or 6 channels to be scanned at the bottom of the screen.

Weaknesses:
Although this tv has many strengths, there are also many weaknesses. First, the image is tilted when I first turned on the set and had to be adjusted. That was no problem, but I expect the manufacturer to at least ship a tv to a customer in good working order. Also, there are only 1 set of component inputs. I have a dvd player and a Xbox which uses component cables. I dont own a receiver allows multiple component inputs yet. Now I have to decide between the dvd or xbox getting that component input. The speakers on this system are not that great. There are bass and treble controls, but the sound isn't sharp and isn't hearable unless you turn the volume up a fair amount. To prevent burn in, people suggest to turn the contrast and brightness to about 50%. Rule of thumb is the lower the better. I have to turn the contrast and brightness up to 75% to get a decent color. I will eventually turn the contrast and brightness to 85% after 100 hours of watching tv. I dont care if the phosphers wear out in 3-4 years, because by that time, I will own an hdtv set allready. Guess this tv is the best of what the industry produces for the given price. Overall, I'm happy.

Review 3 of 4

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
this review is for the 36AF62, the 2003 model of this tv set. WOW!!!I shopped around & was reading reviews over the internet for about 10 months before to make my move...The clarity of the picture will soon make me forget the amount of cash i had to put down to get this new toy. And you know what? that's not even an HD set, but who needs this right now??? Specially with the big screens, they are just a piece of junk to me...(can't get true black, out of focus, burnt screen, need to be seating right in front of it, oh and the best part...90 days warranty for most of them...blabla...bla...no matter who makes them) so just evaluate the reason of your purchase...a little bit smaller but perfect picture is better than big & out of focus... Plus this toshiba will become an excellent 2nd set for the bedroom, in about 5-7 years when i get my plasma display (they will be down at 3-5 G's by then, which can easily be justified considering the technology in those... Until then i know i'll spend 1000's of hours seating in front of it!!!

Strengths:
DVD with the colorstream will blow you away, everything about this set is great real backlight remote Hooked it up to satellite dish with composite video... after spending hours trying to compare with s-video...no difference, that's how good it is the audio part of my review - dunno i run everything thru my yamaha/paradigm sytem.

Weaknesses:
can't go to bed at night... (the girlfriend is getting jealous i think)

Similar Products Used:
compared with panasonic-sony-rca-philips with similar features
