Would never buy again. Second time that it has required a very expensive and time consuming repair. It was repaired just 3 months ago and same problem, just all of a sudden stops working, won''t turn on. Then need to schedule time off of work for repair shop to pick up and deliver back, plus they have it about a month to fix. Is there such a thing as a lemon law for tvs. jean

Strength:

Awesome picture quality. Flat tube.

Weakness:

Side mounted speakers make it hard to get into entertainment center. Velocity scan modulation adds rough edges to picture in all modes except movie mode.

This tv is great, I honestly don't know what some of you people are complaining about. I will say that until you get this tv set up properly you reall should not judge it. I highly suggest using the Canare component video cables many on this sight have talked about. I got mine from custom audio video in tx. They were also offered great advice on the set up of my wega. The cables provided the absolute best picture I have ever seen on an NTSC set. With the canare cables reds became more red and less orangy if that makes any sense, plus the picture was just better in every way. Any way, I love this tv, and cant reccomend the Canare cables more!

Weight, Weight, Weight. Pray it doesn't break.

I only this T.V 3 days but so far it is awesome. As other reviewers have noted it must be set up properly. My main reason for writing this ad is to help people find where to buy this unit. Electronicsworld(Sammans) same company don't ask me why. Call 800-444-6300 ask for Joe. Tell him Andy sent you. I got this T.V and the sony STR-DB930 receiver delivered for around $2,100 total. T.V can be had for under $1,600 befor shipping. This ups the value from a 3 for people who pay $2,000 to a 5. Get this set but make sure either the driver or some strong friends help you get it to its final resting place. Trust me you won't even think of moving this 236lb. monster.Any questions please feel free to email me at andyrori@altavista.com. Also get the Canare cables from Mike at audio video excellance. 830-625-6745.

Just got this tv 5 days ago. So far I'm extremly pleased with the performance of this set. It beats my old toshiba hands down in every way. I took the advice of so many people on this site and ordered the canare component cables to replace my monsters, DAMN! what a difference they made on this set. Colors jump out at me more now and everything just looks better than with the monsters. The guy at CAVC told me to disable my VSM, which I did, and DSS looks sooo much better now. I am also pleased with the great comb filter this tv has. I was watching a VHS tape the other night and was amazed at the performance of the comb filter (no dot crawl). I plan on having an ISF tech come to my house to do a calibration in a few weeks after the set is broken in. All in all, I'm very pleased with my purchase, and I highly reccomend this set to any serious H/T junkie.

Strength:

Amazing digital picture. Cool features.

Weakness:

Weight, poor picture quality using non-digital sources, scan lines if you sit too close

I love my TV. I have not had many problems with it at all, other than a crappy picture using regular cable. But I have come to expect this.

Can someone out there help me to understand the anamorphic feature on this TV. Do I have to set my TV or DVD to play a 16:9 DVD in the correct manner?

Thanks in advance.

Great TV...looking forward to the XBR-400...

Weakness:

Stuff I've heard on this page...

Sorry to take up everyone's time with this message, but I find it suspicious that so many people favorably review one particular type of cable on this board. I would hope that those with a reasonable intellect could identify SPAM/advertising on this page...if these cables are so great, why hasn't anyone heard of 'em before? Guys, the cables will make some difference, but consider it more of a tweak, not a fix for fundamental problems with the set.

Keep up the great review work...it's been one reason I haven't bought the SONY set, hoping they'll fix the problems that so many seem to experience.

Weakness:

All the gripes are true

All the problems described in most of these listings are true. Although you really have to look for them. Honestly, I for one did not know about any of these problems until I read some of the reviews on this website. I simply did not notice anything on my own in the four months that I owned this television. However, immediately after reading about the color problems and the black bar, etc., I quickly ran to my tv and attempted to find them. Sure enough, if one looks hard enough, one will find. This is a shame, because it's a really expensive television, and should not have imperfections, even as minor as these.
Can someone please tell me on how to go about calliberating this television to it's fullest potential. Or where I can find a technician to come and correct these minor conditions.

Bottom line though, If I had to do it all over again,
I really think I would still purchase this television set.
It's really impressive despite the flaws.

Strength:

The best picture I've seen. It makes my old 32" Proton look downright primitive. Competes favorably in overall picture quality to my Loewe Calida at a much better price. DVD's and broadcasts over DSS are phenomenal.

Weakness:

This is a very heavy television.

In terms of overall picture quality, without going to HDTV, this is the best I've seen.

DVD's are spectacular on this set and DSS broadcasts are gorgeous.

I've owned a lot of TV's in the past 10 years. This is one of the best.

With a little haggling you can buy this set between $1650 and $1700.

None that I've noticed

This is and awesome Television. Tuner section is crisp and clear. DVD's are super. I use a Sony DVP-S7700 dvd player. Using the component video outputs. The picture needed no adjustments what so ever. (PLUG & PLAY)
