Summary: Great tv. Not sure what everyone is complaining about. It's really inexpensive for it's size and features. S-video and component are excellent values.
Strengths: Great picture, sound, and quality.
Weaknesses: Quirky remote that is too large.
Similar Products Used: The 19" phillips is just as good.

Summary: I've had two Philips TV's--this one and the 25" model similar to this one. They would be the best value on the market except for one very disturbing problem--the picture is very distorted. This is especially noticable on widescreen DVD and cable programming, where it is obvious the black bars are very crooked. I'm taking it back tomorrow, and believe me, I won't be exchanging it for another Philips.
Strengths: Great audio.....component video and s-video are unheard of on a 27" TV for this price. The design is wonderful......the TV even looks good turned off.......
Weaknesses: Unfortunately the TV also looks best when its turned off........due to the huge picture distortion. It's a shame that an otherwise wonderful product is marred by such a problem. One begins to wonder if Philips even cares about the consumer anymore. I just can't take it anymore, this thing is going back tomorrow.
Similar Products Used: Philips 19" (similar design to this model), now that was a great TV, except for its small size. Philips 25", same picture problems. Old crappy RCA.....but hey, the picture worked perfectly.

Summary: This review is for the 27P55S (same as the 27P60S except for no PIP)
I purchased this set after many comparisons to other 27" TV's in my price range (under $450). The sound is very good for built in speakers, better than any other 27" sets that I compared it to. This was a very important feature for me, since this set will not be hooked up to an external sound source. If I were to use an external source, I probably would've chosen the Toshiba 27A41 or the Sony KV-27S42.
The Philip's picture is also good, but not perfect. There is a slight curve on the bottom of the tube, which is particularly noticable on letterbox dvd screens. I've seen other reviews that have had a similar complaint. This doesn't bother me however, and it is only noticable if the set is placed at higher than eye level. Otherwise, the picture is good, only slightly worse than the Sony and Toshiba.
Additional benefits that did not factor in my decision: side rca input jacks, component input, and it looks great!
Strengths: Very good sound (relatively speaking of course). Good picture. Great looking physical appearance. Side input RCA's. Component input. Great bang for buck.
Weaknesses: Some geometry problems (bows up on bottom third of picture). Only 1 year warranty on tube. Slight high pitch whine when on.

Summary: This is a terrific tv set! The picture is excellent, the sound is rich and deep, plenty of connection ports for all your goodies, incredible array of user preference settings. Physically, it's not as deep as most 27" sets and therefore it can fit into more places. I have it hooked up to DVD, DSS, VCR and an attic antennae, no problems accomodating them all.
I give it an A++ Can't think of any way to make it better...really...it's perfect. I hope it's as durable as it is functional.
Strengths: Picture, sound, features
Weaknesses: none yet!

Summary: I would love the near flat-screen feature on this television if the picture were set properly. It was improperly adjusted (it seems) at the factory. I just can't take the almost concave visual effect while watching. A straight line on the bottom of the screen looks curved. A DVD movie seems like I'm watching a curved Cinerama screen! The other problem is this; every time I change a channel, the horizontal picture jumps. Can't say I love the contrast on this set, either. I can't get the picture to look as vibrant as the RCA. I purchased it five days ago, I'm taking it back tomorrow.
Strengths: Good sound, good remote and onscreen display, easy set-up manual.
Weaknesses: Defective factory settings makes the television picture look concave rather than flat. Changing channels make the horizontal hold jump for a second.
Similar Products Used: RCA 27-inch.
