Strength:

Everything... HDMI 1080i Component and Composite video HDTV capable Loud speakers on TV Flexible inputs and outputs

Weakness:

It's still heavy...I had to buy $30 worth of hardware to reinforce the shelving I have it sitting on in my room.

This is just an update of my previous review on the same TV. I've since replaced the following: My Coax with Monster Coax, connected the TV with a Monster Power Powerbar, Using Monster Component Video cables from my JVC XV-N512S flagship DVD player, and Monster Link300 audio cables between the DVD player and TV, and from the TV to my mini system I'm using right now. The end result? Even better picture and sound on everything...including the Cable, and on DVD's. The TV makes well produced movies look very very good. Probably not the same "deep" look you get with Plazma, but amazing for a tube TV. It beats my parents Panasonic Gaoo hands down (that was also a $1000 TV, but regular ratio, round glass, and 27"). I'd definately reccomend that people look into this TV if they want a larger high-end picture, best suited for widescreen movies, but don't want to spend the money on LCD or Plazma yet.

Strength:

Digital Image scaling technology takes conventional tube performance to near-plasma performance, HDTV ready, high resolution (1080i, as good as it gets for a tube), lots of features and user freindly onscreen menu's, loud and clean sounding speakers, tastefull design, lots of connections and source flexibility. I think this TV has a better picture than most LCD Tv's I looked at when shopping for a TV too. They just don't have the sharpness that this one does...

Weakness:

It's heavy...that's it...

Well, I was on a search for a TV that had performance not too far off an LCD or Plasma, but I simply didn't have the physical wall space and budget for either of those types. So, I got to looking at Tube TV's, but I wanted one that was widescreen because most DVD's and TV programs I buy/watch are 16:9 ratio anyways. I've always been a fan of JVC TV's, and figured I'd see what they had to offer. I saw that they had TV's like this at Futureshop, but they only had the AV-30W475 in stock, and not the 585. So, without even seeing it, I decided to look for one, and I ended up getting it for a lower price from Audiovibe. Not only is this a flat screen, 16:9 ratio TV, but it's also HDTV ready, and it happens to be JVC's flagship TV in a tube. So, after about a weeks wait for it to be delivered, I went and picked it up and brought it home. After unpacking it, (and man, at 132 lbs this TV is no lightweight)I had to hook up a DVD player to it asap. What did I end up with? A TV with a picture that is good. Too good. It's so good, that it makes poorly recorded DVD's look just that...poor. But, on the otherhand, it makes well produced movies look outstanding. This TV is chock full of features, including the ability to change the aspect ratio, the lighting ambiance, the sound, and about 6 pages or more of onscreen menu's of features I've not even tapped into yet. This TV is most definately a keeper...it's got stunning clarity, amazing resolution, a nice dark tube, a wide viewing area, and even it's speakers are really loud and clear. There's evn a hookup on the rear of the TV for the center channel input of a receiver to use the TV's speakers as the center channel. It also has a subwoofer pre-out to hook up a self-powered sub to it, a HDTV HDMI port, lots of component video connections, and even connections for both digital video and sound outputs too. Definately a first class machine, and a flexible one too. I've not had cable or digital cable hooked up to it, but I'm sure it won't fail to impress when compared to the TV I'm replacing with this one. If you're not looking to budget a LCD or Plazma, but you still want a TV with a decent sized picture for HT setups, this is definately the TV for you. By the way, this TV's picture blows away a Sony Trinitron or Vega...it's just better, plain and simple. And because it's I'Art PRO series, it's flagship JVC, at a reasonable price...Go and take a look at one of these...especially with a superbit DVD and a good DVD player like the JVC Flagship XV N512S...combo for visual nirvanna on a budget!
