Summary: Great TV, beautiful picture quality, excellent features. Used it for about 2 weeks now and the only problem i''ve had with it was trying to get it out of my car. Just in time to watch the Lakers win!
Strengths: picture/audio quality, inputs (composite AND S-Video), PIP
Weaknesses: too big for my car

Summary: Bought this TV to replace a Zenith 25" TV that died after a recent repair for a different problem. There are three different people I know that own a Zenith TV that have major problems with the picture tube, but anyway...this TV is probably the best set we''ve bought. It has great sound and connectivity to various inputs, remote control is better than most, and picture is first rate.
Strengths: Great clarity in the picture. 2 tuner PIP is handy for freeing up VCR.
Weaknesses: Remote control doesn''t have direct access for VCR channel input, have to scan through channels, a bit of a hassle. Setup menus a bit awkward.

Soon after bringing this set home, I began to notice that when the picture went from a dark scene to a bright one, that the picture would blink (very, very briefly 1/10 second) and the contrast would go a half shade darker then re-set to the correct contrast. It does not happen all the time, but it is very annoying when it does. I would be intersted to know if this is a defect in MY set or how all JVCs work. Please e-mail me if you have any info.
Other than that, the set is a very nice, crisp picture. Sound could be better, but not a major concern.
Strengths:
Weaknesses: Picture quality concerns, sound

Summary: Before I begin on why I like this TV I will discuss the problems I have with it.
The quality control concerns me. I bought one set and brought it home only to find out the TV wasnt put together properly. Two pieces of plastic on the bottom overlapped in the each other incorrectly. This caused the TV to rock when set on a flat surface. I packed up the TV and decided to exchange it for another. The next one I got had the exact same problem. However, this time the problem wasnt quite as bad. I popped the plastic into place with a screwdriver, and decided to give it a shot.
The lack of two different sets of inputs on the back that would accept at least composite connections is disappointing. The problem comes in when you are using an input to a receiver that is composite and you also have s-video hooked up as well. The television thinks it is getting s-video signal and puts up a blue screen even though it should be playing the composite signal. The set of composite inputs on the front helps solve this issue if used for a game system or a camcorder, but older video equipment ran through a receiver could cause some people headaches.
Other than those two issues, I love this television. The picture on this set is incredible. I bought this set because I wanted an affordable set that had s-video and component inputs that would be a great second set when I finally get a HDTV big screen. When I first connected the set I was a little concerned because of the pixelation I noticed while watching my dish network feed. However, after an hour the picture looked terrific. The digital comb filter was helping to give a crisp clear picture.
I only used the built in speakers for a few days before my surround sound system arrived. This TV does have good sound, but it cant compare to having a surround sound setup. I do like having an obvious menu option to turn off the speakers when connecting the television to your surround system.
The two-tuner PIP is a nice feature, but it is not that practical except for watching two sporting events at the same time. I would like to have seen an option that would allow a smaller window, but the option to put the PIP picture in any corner was nice.
Overall, I love this product because it had the inputs I was looking for at a great price. The outstanding picture and extra features were a nice suprise. All my sources are s-video and the change is dramatic over my old 27" RCA that only had an RF input. This television is a great monitor for home theater enthusiasts that dont want to break the bank.
If not for the quality control concerns, I would give this television 5 stars.
Strengths: Easy to adjust video settings, stores three different sets of video settings, S-video and component inputs, 3 Line Digital Comb Filter, 2 tuner PIP.
Weaknesses: Not a set of composite only inputs on the back (one input is s-video or composite), Seems to be a lack in quality control at the factory
