Bottom Line:
I don't know who the above reviews were made by, but I can ASSURE you that they do not know how to set up there Picture Quality. I had this TV for 4 months until my 53SDX01B model came in stock, and I have not seen a better picture quality on any HDTV. The SDX is a litter better, but the FDX is the best on the market. Better than the SONY.

The gray bars in Widescreen mode are required so that the tv scans only the picture viewing area. If you have Black bars, it scans them so you lose some theoretical picture quality that isn't even noticed.

Bottom Line:
I have owned this set for about three months and truly enjoy the viewing experience it has given me. (no, it isn't perfect, but given the bucks spent - it's damn good!)Much of what is seen is contingent on what the broadcast or quality of play from Directv. It's big, it's bold, it's fun! I will also say that in order to really get the theatre experience, you'll need to have a home theatre sound package - the speakers provided with the tv SUCK! However, that being siad - In my opinion, it offers good value and a fun viewing experience. Enjoy folks.

Bottom Line:
For the money, this isn't a bad TV, unless you watch alot of DVD's and the above mentioned weakness can be very irritating, but this TV really goes a long way for $2300. Personally, I am returning it tommorrow and getting the 56" Toshiba Theater Wide because I can't stand the grey bars on the top and bottom of the screen while in 16:9

If you don't care about DVD's in letterbox, 16:9, then this TV is worth checking out.
