Summary: We purchased the Akai PDP 4290 in October 2003 and were pleased with the picture until November 2005 when the display failed with the loud sound of electrical arcing and the smell of burned electronics.
We contacted Circuit City, since we had the CityAdvantage 5 year protection plan at a cost of $707+ and have gotten the run-around for the past week and a half and today were promised to be authorized for an exchange some time in the next month.
Strengths: Good picture quality if you only want to use is for two years.
Weaknesses: It apparently does not have much longevity since ours only lasted a hair over 2 years before it failed completely!

Summary: The Akai PDP 4290 is a good purchase for the pice. I paid a little over $1,500 with tax & the TV looks great, When hoked up to my PC (5.1 Creative Labs) it sounds Great. Since its a "no name" brand im thinking of getting a extended warrantie, but over all the plasma looks great, sounds good, & its i think the best bang for the but so far.
Strengths: Great for a home with a budget.
Weaknesses: Remote control is a little hard to figure out. Since its a "No Brand Name" I recomend buying a extended warrantie...Just in case.

Summary: Bought a refurbished model. Received within 1 week in good condition. Had the TV up and running within 20 minutes. Pleasantly surprised with the quality. Many nice features built in, however, this makes the remote somewhat complex to figure out. Picture and sound quality is excellent. Very satisfied with my TV.
Strengths: Excellent picture and sound quality along with many nice features.
Weaknesses: Somewhat complex to operate
