Price Paid:  $2400.00 from Video Only

Summary:
For a DLP the Toshiba 56MX195 has a good picture and OK features. But here's the real decision point - Lamp Replacement. I'm on my 4th lamp in less than 2 years. I figure I'm getting about 500 hours per lamp and at a replacement cost of $260 per lamp, next failure will be its last. Toshiba replaced the first lamp under warranty saying the lamp was faulty and that the new lamp should last 6000 hours or more. I may have got 500 hours before the lamp failed. When the third lamp failed, I called Toshiba and asked what they were going to do about it. They said my experience is what I should have expected when buying a DLP. "2000 hours is an average - some more - some less." Clearly Toshiba doesn't stand behind their products. I started searching the web and found several hints of a possible class action lawsuit. That's how upset people are with Toshiba misrepresenting their DLP products. I can understand finding a problem after a product hits the market. But they are continuing to market the same product with the same problem. That's disreputable. I'll never buy another Toshiba product.

Strengths:
Good Picture
Good Sound

Weaknesses:
Lamp Replacement every 500 hours at $260 per lamp.

Price Paid:  $2200.00 from HHGREGG

Summary:
According to a repair man, Toshiba left loose screws in the television during manufacturing. After about a month of use, they damaged several components in the television. I have been without use of my television for 5 weeks.

Dealing with Toshiba customer service has been a miserable experience. I can understand a part breaking down and the patience required to get it fixed. But, we have had the repair center out 2 times with a third on the way.

I asked and was finally granted a replacement television only to have Toshiba customer service call me back the next day to recind their offer. I am still in shock. I would not ever buy from Toshiba again. Not only was their product defective, but their customer service is poor, insulting, and really doesn't care about the customer.

Strengths:
None. The TV was OK when working.

Weaknesses:
Poor quality, poor customer service.

Similar Products Used:
I owned a previous Toshiba television without problems. However, when they do have problems, it is becomming very difficult to rectify.

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
