from best buy Summary: This actually refers to the 43H71 and not the "HX" version, but - close enough. This is a very good TV, except - definitely think about whether you should just get the 50" or a 36" tube tv before buying this one. It''s too small/short to put on the floor, so you have to buy a stand. The "official" Toshiba stand for this tv is pretty cheap-looking pressboard, and (at least for me) is too tall - raised the tv above optimal viewing level. Also, it could only hold a few audio components because of it''s poor design (think - aftermarket). I ended up ditching the official stand for a shorter and nicer piece of furniture (I could have gotten the 50h71 for the same price as a decent stand + this tv).
Don''t mean to be so negative - the tv certainly has a great picture for quality sources. Progressive-scan DVD picture is phenomenal. High-quality digital cable channels are also great. I agree with other reviewers in that this tv seems to almost magnify poor cable quality though - a few weeks after getting it I was up on my roof searching for a decent place for a DirecTV dish because Comcast digital cable is of such crappy picture quality except for on the "300" channels (ie, HBO etc). Not sure whether this is a common problem for tv''s > 32", or a function of HDTV line-doublering, or what, but... ESPN is almost unwatchable - will have to rectify this problem somehow before football season kicks off in the fall!
Still - I''d buy a Toshiba projection tv again, would just buy the 50" and put it directly on the floor instead of messing with trying to get a decent stand for the 43". Make sure you have a good idea of where exactly you want to fit it into your room/furniture scheme if you go for this TV. Also, 43" size seems best if your couch is only 8-9 feet from tv, if you''re 10-12 then 50" version will likely make you happier in the long run. Especially with widescreen anamorphic dvd''s where you''re only viewing about half of the screen, 43" doesn''t seem all that big anymore from more than 6-7 feet away. Strengths: *Great picture quality for quality sources
*Tons and tons of inputs on back of TV
*Good sound, as tv''s go
*Seems to be widely discounted, if you''re patient and look hard enough/can accept an open-box
* good choice for smaller rooms Weaknesses: *seems to magnify crappy cable signals
*needs suitable placement in room/furniture scheme
*no room on top of tv for center channel speaker Similar Products Used: none - 32" tube tv was last tv
