Review 1 of 4

Price Paid:  $1619.00 from www.onecall.com

Summary:
Bad news.... I have had several problems with this TV. The most annoying problem is the fact that it turns off/on by itself. When I got the TV it died the second day I had it. I took it in.. I had it *fixed*. Got it back & it started the off/on problem. It was bad over the summer, then I took it in again. The tech had it for MONTH & returned it to me. Not fixed-same problem. This is now 8 months later and the same problem is cropping up again.. It turned on/off 10 times in the past 2 hours... Grr. I'm gonna call Toshiba & they better give me a refund or replacement... Not recommended.

Strengths:
good picture

Weaknesses:
Turns off/on by itself!! NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR A $1600+ Television

Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $1657.00 from on-line

Summary:
This TV has a good solid quality picture and sound. The image is very sharp and sound quality is good as well. This product is a solid choice item if most of the programming you are watching is still in 4:3 format. This TV will support HDTV in 16:9 format but then you would loose 30% of space to black lines above and below the picture. If high definition program you are watching is in 4:3 resolution, the picture will NOT be adjusted to be displayed full screen – instead you would see a black frame 3-5 inches wide around 4:3 program. This TV claims to have a picture in picture capability but it does not – what it has is side-by-side programming from two different sources. But those sources are limited to regular programs (not High Definition) such as TV turner 1, Video 1, Video 2 and Video 3. High definition sources are not available for PIP features. TV turner 2 source is not available in slave window either. There are only two sizes of side-by-side feature is available: 70:30 and 50:50. So, this TV has total of 7 inputs: TV turner 1, Video1 Video 2 Vidio3 (front of the TV), High Definition 1, High Definition 2 and TV turner 2. High Definition inputs are RGB and SVGA input (monitor) is NOT there.

Strengths:
Sound Quality Picture Quality Grey Color

Weaknesses:
No PIP for High Definition PIP features are limited to side-by-side only No PIP for TV turner 2 no SVGA input

Review 3 of 4

Price Paid:  $1419.00 from best buy

Summary:
This actually refers to the 43H71 and not the "HX" version, but - close enough. This is a very good TV, except - definitely think about whether you should just get the 50" or a 36" tube tv before buying this one. It''s too small/short to put on the floor, so you have to buy a stand. The "official" Toshiba stand for this tv is pretty cheap-looking pressboard, and (at least for me) is too tall - raised the tv above optimal viewing level. Also, it could only hold a few audio components because of it''s poor design (think - aftermarket). I ended up ditching the official stand for a shorter and nicer piece of furniture (I could have gotten the 50h71 for the same price as a decent stand + this tv). Don''t mean to be so negative - the tv certainly has a great picture for quality sources. Progressive-scan DVD picture is phenomenal. High-quality digital cable channels are also great. I agree with other reviewers in that this tv seems to almost magnify poor cable quality though - a few weeks after getting it I was up on my roof searching for a decent place for a DirecTV dish because Comcast digital cable is of such crappy picture quality except for on the "300" channels (ie, HBO etc). Not sure whether this is a common problem for tv''s > 32", or a function of HDTV line-doublering, or what, but... ESPN is almost unwatchable - will have to rectify this problem somehow before football season kicks off in the fall! Still - I''d buy a Toshiba projection tv again, would just buy the 50" and put it directly on the floor instead of messing with trying to get a decent stand for the 43". Make sure you have a good idea of where exactly you want to fit it into your room/furniture scheme if you go for this TV. Also, 43" size seems best if your couch is only 8-9 feet from tv, if you''re 10-12 then 50" version will likely make you happier in the long run. Especially with widescreen anamorphic dvd''s where you''re only viewing about half of the screen, 43" doesn''t seem all that big anymore from more than 6-7 feet away.

Strengths:
*Great picture quality for quality sources *Tons and tons of inputs on back of TV *Good sound, as tv''s go *Seems to be widely discounted, if you''re patient and look hard enough/can accept an open-box * good choice for smaller rooms

Weaknesses:
*seems to magnify crappy cable signals *needs suitable placement in room/furniture scheme *no room on top of tv for center channel speaker

Similar Products Used:
none - 32" tube tv was last tv
