Review 1 of 4

Price Paid:  $1999.00 from Tweeter

Summary:
Fell in love with this set in the Tweeter showroom during the Winter Olympics. First installed with non-HD DirecTV receiver. Upgraded to a Hughes HIRD-E86 HD receiver. Although HD programming is rather limited, I'm extremely happy with the purchase of this RPTV. HDNET, HBO-H and CBS (offering most "Big 4" HDTV programming) offer an absolutely jaw-dropping picture. Impression is more like looking out a 42-inch, 16x9 window instead of an RPTV.

Strengths:
Jaw-dropping picture. Intiutive, feature-packed remote. Numerous input options. Analog 4x3 to 6x9 conversion is very well done with little distortion of picture loss.

Weaknesses:
No space on top of set for center channel speaker.

Similar Products Used:
None (first HD/RPTV)

Review 2 of 4

Price Paid:  $1700.00 from Good Guys

Summary:
This Toshiba is a great TV for the price. Picture quality is very good for projection tv. Setup is easy and connections are straight forward. Features are easy to use and access with the remote. Remote is better than most. The TV is also lightweight for its size. I also looked at Sony Wega 4x3 TV's and decided to go with the HDTV wide screen instead. I have not yet tried Progressive scan DVD as I am still in process of getting a player.

Strengths:
Picture quality, ease of setup and ease of feature access via remote. Component video, multiple S video inputs, front inputs for easy digital camera use. Excellent size wide screen tv for smaller rooms.

Weaknesses:
None noticed yet.

Similar Products Used:
Sony Trinitron, checked other HDTV brands and sizes

Review 3 of 4

Price Paid:  $1699.00 from Best Buy

Summary:
This widescreen is worth every penny that I paid for it. I bought this at Best Buy with their price match guarrantee and was able to knock off $300. This TV is great. I looked at Mitsubishi's and Sony's but I felt the Toshiba's had far better picture quality than the Sony and more stylish looking than the Mistubishi. Performance-wise, combined with the Toshiba SD-4700, it's a match made in heaven. I set it to run on 16:9 all the time and distortion is to the minimal to none. Set it in film mode, the whole screen looks like a mini-movie theater. You'll never run out of inputs on the back. S-video, component, Coax, and RCA are all available. The remote is backlit and the menus are easy to navigate. Convergence is a synch. At 42 inches, this is a great entry to mid-range HDTV monitor, especially at this price. Buy a nice DVD player along with the Monster cables and you will not be disappointed.

Strengths:
picture quality stylish look menu remote

Weaknesses:
None so far...

Similar Products Used:
Mitsubishi Sony

Review 4 of 4

Price Paid:  $1800.00 from GoodGuys

Summary:
I have had this set for about 2 months now. This is also my first RPT, my other TV being a 27in. Toshiba. This TV is excellent and is the perfect size for my midsize room. The TV is very small for sucha a big screen. Its about as heavy and thick as the 32 in. WEGA I had. I have had noe problems wit it whatsoever and the picture is just great. It has a wealth of connections in the rear and the remote is backlit too! This is the best TV you can get for the price range. I also looked at Mitsubishi, Panasonic, and hitachi, but none came close in terms of pirce and features. Can't wait until my Toshiba DS4700 DVD playare arrives!

Strengths:
Easy installation and picture setup. Very this depth-wise. Many connections on the back. excellent remote. Great price.

Weaknesses:
Having trouble using my digital cable remote control to control the TV, ie. power, volume. Probably because the digital cable remote sucks.

Similar Products Used:
Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Hitachi
