I bought this TV after a long extensive look between the Sony 3lcd and the Samsung DLP. What drew me more to the Sony was the fact that is has no moving parts compared to the Samsung that has the spinning color wheel. Both models are comparable in their price range.
The sony out of the box has a fairly good picture, but after playing the Avia home theater setup disk my picture improved greatly. HDTV on this looks amazing. It is actually jaw dropping how sweet it looks. Regular cable channels are grainy, but I knew this going into buying the set. What people tend to forget is that these TV's are not made for "regular" television. These TV's show how flawed the older signals really are. The consumer just did not realize it.
Sound: Ummm it's okay. But I play my TV through my surround sound receiver so I have yet to really judge it. But how well can speakers sound that are only 10-15 watts?
Remote: It is okay, but it is your typical manufactored remote. I had bought a new Logitech Harmony (Model #659) remote before receiving the TV. I would highly suggest to anyone to do the same and save yourself the headache. The harmony does everything for you, except make the popcorn and flush the toilet.
Also do a search for this model on price grabber.com. You can find it well under retail value that going to you local electronic giant store. I know I saved over 800 dollars buy purchasing this unit online. It is a little scary to buy something so big this way, but if you find a reputable seller, it should go seamlessly. Mine had free delivery, and it took them 8 business days to deliver it. I was willing to wait the time versus the savings I had by buying online. If you have the patience it is the way to go. Strengths:
By far the picture in HD. And thats what we buy these TV's for correct? Weaknesses:
Speakers and remote.
