Pioneer SD 643HD5 Rear Projection

4.5/5 (10 Reviews) MSRP : $5299.00

Product Description

Do you consider yourself a big picture person? Then consider the SD-643HD5. It delivers a full high-definition picture (when combined with an HDTV tuner), for stunningly beautiful images. Its Reference Theater Mode automatically adjusts key settings (for example, color temperature) for film-like reproduction from any video source. It further enhances movie viewing with PureCinema, a Pioneer technology that recognizes film-based sources and recreates each individual still frame, for a more authentic movie presentation. And, its Automatic Format Converter up-converts standard interlaced signals to progressive images, virtually doubling the resolution on sources like regular TV or videotape. Also included are dual tuners for two-source viewing, and a glow-in-the-dark smart remote.

Bottom Line:
It's absolutely best buy for a 64" HDTV projection monitor. Pioneer and Mitsubishi's projection TV are of the best ranking at all, but Pioneer one is $500.00 cheaper than that of Mitsubishi. The picture quality is awesome when playing progressive anarmorphic DVD and HDTV source. When watching "the distinguished gentleman" on Starz HDTV channel from my local cable company in 1080i true HDTV mode, you're just feeling you're watching the movie in the theater (it seems I'll never need to go to cinema.). The two full-range speakers with virutal surround sound makes you believe you're actually listening to the 5.1 dolby digtal speakers; its frequency response, dynamic range and the surround effect are one of the best I've ever heard from a TV. This TV uses the traditional three 7" projection tubes (don't know the brand and model of tubes, Pioneer doesn't manufacture the tube) to produce the wonderful pictures, even it is bulky and heavy (290lbs, costco doesn't do delivery, had a nightmare to get it back into my apartment), it produces by far the best video quality among all technologies (such as DLP, plasma, LCD, LCOS and etc). If what you want is to watch MOVIE, this is the one you need hunt for. New technogloy doesn't mean it is the best.

Bottom Line:
This is an update to my review below. The monitor is working as well as ever. I have now updated my whole system except the monitor. I could not find anything under $10,000 that would compare (With the exception of the Elite). This set is a steal and should be seriously looked at by anyone looking for a Rear Projection set. By the way my comment about Audiophiles has generated much junk mail, it was not meant to insult the true Audiophile but rather a request for people to truthfully judge their own knowledge.

Question: Has any one had trouble with this TV(SD643-HD5) blowing the power board? This is the second one I have had this problem with.

90% of the people who call themselves Audiophiles on this site know very little, please post your qualifications correctly as this site is a great reference for those who need help.

The is a great monitor and quit possibly one of the top monitors on the market. It is outdone by the Pioneer Elite version but not by much. The convergence control is one of the best I have seen and holds it’s settings well. The overall picture is incredible and bright. The controls are straightforward and easy plus it features direct video selection that gets rid of flipping through all the video inputs. My monitor has was ISF certified after its burn period and the quality is as amazing as any monitor I have ever seen. The burn in period is longer than I have ever experienced (about 35 hours) but it was no too bad. This is by far the best deal in a monitor and even at full retail prices the set is a better deal then most.

This TV is amazing. It has better picture quality than smaller hdtv's. When compared to a 61 inch Hitachi Ultravision, this tv blew it away, and the hitachi was over 1000 dollars more. I can't tell you about the sound because i have not used it having a reciever and all.
