Review 2 of 2 Summary: This unit is great when it works. It has a picture that rivals some direct view sets. It has an awsome sound (when I am not using the full Home Theatre system (Pioneer Reference DVD, Meridian 561 Controller Preamp and Classe Power amp))...
On the down side, the Line Doubler produces a video noise that is quite visible. This seems to have increased over time, in amount and visibility. Also, the picture has a convex shape on top and bottom (even after professional ISF tune-up). Although this is slight, for the price (even if there are more expensive sets), I would not expect this.
Lastly, the convergence is just satisfactory. After waiting a couple of hours after the set has been on, I will check the convergence (occasionally) and attempt to adjust it. It is never perfect (not even close). It never has been.
However, I still like the set, and believe that I may have gotten one that is not an good example of the product-line output. Every product has a lemon or two come out once in a while.
On the upside, my dealer (Overture of Willmington DE) has been very dilligent about making certain that I get the service I need from Pioneer. Pioneer is attempting to address the Line Doubler issue, and though we are on the 5th visit, they are working on it responsively. Strengths: Brightness, Color Richness, standalone sound... Weaknesses: Line Doubler, Picture shape, Convergence... Similar Products Used: None...
