Summary: This TV has a great picture when using DVD or HD source. Picture is about the same as a none HD television when using normal satellite or cable inputs. I would definitely reccomend paying the extra for a good set of component video cables instead of using the S-Video input. The picture difference is worth the money.
Strengths: Great picture, lots of inputs.
Weaknesses: Picture is a little grainy when you use anything other than 4:3 or 16:9 modes.
Similar Products Used: Phillips 46" non-HD big-screen.

Summary: I bought this tv because I wanted to upgrade to a widescreen digital. It took a little getting used to because of the 16:9 aspect. I have had 2 of these sets delivered to my house because of video problems. The first one had white lines flickering across the tv horizontally randomly. The second one when I am using movie mode, when there is a fast scene change you see black lines flash across the set. Hitachi is telling me that this is normal and the the only time I should use this function is when I am watching a movie. Every movie that I have watched i have used movie mode and have seen these black lines. If I selct one of the other modes the "PROBLEM" goes away. I find that this is a distraction when I am watching a movie, cable, or gaming.
Strengths: Haven't seen any yet...
Weaknesses: If You want to buy a tv that has a normal "PROBLEM", buy this one.

Summary: Did my research and went with the Hitachi over the Mitsubishi. I had the TV for a month and spent the bones on an ISF Calibration.... I was pleased before the calibration, but now the TV really shines. Great picture and color quality.
I couldn't be more pleased.
Strengths: All the major components are made by Hitachi and not a third party company. Great picture for a Consumer grade TV, had very few artifacts. I dig the PIP swap feature. HDTV is awesome on this set.
Weaknesses: None that come to mind.
