It's all about the sound

Yes yes. Yes. It's all true. These reviews we share with each other on the FSR-18 Velodyne sub sound like reading comedy script ! The words. No. The ways we use the words in describing the power of this sub is not only funny but quite accurate . Ex.earthshaking. , not only moves the air but also the furniture. , nearly blew holes in the ceiling. , compromises the integrity of the structure. , e t c . I own two of these in flawless piano black and have for years and though I find our script amusing , I also know it to be true a rare find Highly recommended. Ps. U. Won't. Find. A. Better. Sub !!!$

IMHO I believe this is one of Velodynes best subwoofers. I own a FSR-15, and a CHT-15, all are excellent in blending with my other speakers, the FSR-18 with it's 1250 watt amplifier and the improved accelerometer, makes this sub. very fast, clear, and ever so deep. It excels in Organ music, in Jazz, in movies, overall, I have no complaints at ALL. I have it plugged directly into the wall, which does not limit the power at ALL. The "hum" others notice, I have NEVER heard in mine. It is dead silent.

The PS Audio PCA-2 with the HCPS is the Pre-amp I use along with the GCA-500 and GCA-250 power amplifiers.

You certainly can pay more for a subwoofer, but I doubt you will find one that can vanish in your listening room, when properly implemented. Quite frankly, this thing is almost scary, when playing certain Movies, that have sudden deep transients. For a 18" driver, I have never heard any sub. stop and start with the speed this baby has. I feel like I "stole" this sub. since I paid under $1000 dollars for it, and nothing in that range can even touch it., I Love Bass, whether acoustic double bass, or electric bass, Like Anthony Jackson, Marcus Miller, Brian Bromberg, Jaco Pastorius.

Dan Berglund, from the "Esbjorn Svenssson Trio" the album "From Gagarin's Point Of View" is a wonderful test for the FSR-18, Dan Berglund uses the bow on the acoustic double bass, and the
sounds he creates will almost make you cry, simply incredible!

The FSR-18 truly can create "seismic" levels of clear bass reproduction, that will test the limits, of the foundation of your home. A true "T-Rex", an instrument capable of crockery, and window, destruction.

Whether the most delicate, passages in music, or the all out bass extremes, this Subwoofer, can, and does it all, without flinching.

Hearing, and "FEELING", is Believing!

I Love Music!

WOW!!!
WOW!!!
WOW!!!

this is an abismal WAF sub, but an astronomical HAF. This sub reminds us guys that sub really stands for subsonic. This renders such clean rumble missing from most reproduced music that you feel like most other subs are to augment transistor radios.

WARNING: if you don't appreciate your building vibrating, look elsewhere.

Strength:

Sheer power and acurate non-distorting jaw crushing bass

Weakness:

None- besides the price your back pays lifting this beast

This sub was well worth the money!!!! Never before have I heard such Earth-shattering bass that I felt throughout the house. Unbelievable for DVD movies. Excellent low, accurate bass for music. It isn't the lightest puppy of the litter, but man does it slam! I couldn't be more happier with this sub. The servo noise is non-existant on my sub, though I was tol on earlier models there was a slight hum. The remote is an added luxury for us lazy folks, but a nice extra. This will do me fine for many years to come.

Strength:

best bass around

Weakness:

reliability

6 months after I had it it took a dump, 6 weeks from the time I dropped it off until I got it back. It's a beast alright, but I'm wondering if it's going to hold up or not. Just 1 more year left on the warranty...my fingers are crossed. When it does work no sub can beat it, literally house shaking base with the thing barely on, A1 for movies, seamless with music. In a few years i'll be looking to get another one used to make things complete!

This is one of the Best Subs I have ever heard. The Design is IMPRESSIVE with the 3000 watt power supply and the Huge Magnet. This sub is one of the all time great subs. TOTALLY KICKS in movies DTS and DOLBY DIGITAL, and is Great for music. You can't go wrong with this Sub.

I like to think of my system as high-end, audio/video, with a strong emphasis toward audio. My own view is that combination systems like mine are the wave of the future, if not the present. If Dan D'Agostino of Krell can call 2 channel stereo a "hermit's hobby," then, face it, if you don't combine high end audio with a high end a/v system, you're missing the boat--whether it's here now, or docking shortly.
Now, then: I upgraded from Definitive Technology BP2000s (with corresponing center, surrounds, etc.) to Aerial Acoustics 10Ts, etc. I have a Krell KAV250A that drives the mains, and a Krell KAV500 that drives the remainder (bridging 400 watts to the center channel). But with the substitute to the Aerials, I now needed a subwoofer. Definitive had them built in.

I got the new Velodyne. Now, as all you folks know, the tweaking is very important, especially with the setting of the crossover frequency, whether it be music or movies. I have a Proceed PAV/PDSD combination, and, while Velodyne told me to set the crossover for 60hz with music, and 80hz with movies, my friendly dealer said don't bother, just set the crossover in the Proceed at 80hz, make the exact match with the Velodyne, and let it be for music and movies.

I guess I'm going backwards (from the great dealer's advice I got to the great sub) but it's made a huge difference. If ever the word "seamless" could appropriately apply (and that's what the audio press tells us to strive for--seamlessness!) it does here!!! And once the settings are correct, the Velodyne is just utterly amazing--movies AND music.

I expected a huge dinosaur-foot stomping machine. Instead, I got deep, clean, articulate bass that blends in WONDERFULLY with the very precise combination of PROCEED, AERIAL, and KRELL. With my Sony XA7ES cd player, or with my Panasonic DVD player, the bass is just everything you might hope for. It greatly outperforms the stereo subwoofers I had with the Definitives, and the idea that I need anything more than this magnificent machine for low bass can only come from a salesman.

The Velodyne lives up to its name. If you match it against other subs, you're going to have to admit that, while others may approach its class, none can outclass it.

This unit is worth at the very least $3500! At $2000, it's a steal! If $2000 can be considerred a steal, this definitely is! And, I'm one who more than hasitates at such a price. I flinched & I squealed. But &^!@*%# it, a bargain is a bargain. You get a Mercedes for the price of an Impala!

FANTASTIC!!!!! That's about the only word that describes the way the FSR18 performs.
I auditioned about 25 seperate sub's before buying the Velodyne and I have to say that none, I repeat, NONE of them came remotely close to the shear bone- trembling capability and distortion-free bass that is pumped out by the Velodyne FSR18 and it's 1250 WATT amplifier!

It seemed most of the sales folks tried to direct me to the Sunfire sub which is, I suppose, the right sub for some but it didn't hold a candle to the FSR18.

The ONLY sub remotely close in performance to the Velodyne was the 18" Definitive Tech. Notice I said "remotely" as none of them performed with the authority of the Velodyne.

Granted, at $2,300.00 the FSR18 is not for everyone but if you demand the best subwoofer performance without compromise, this is the sub for you.

My suggestion is to go out and look, listen, learn and be amazed!

By the way, I thought a point worth mentioning is my auditioning of subs was done with my Delos DVD Spectacular playing the 1812 Overture. Happy subbing!!!
