I just recently bought this because I saw it for 350 dollars from a private seller and could not pass up on this. i am not familiar with any of the Aperion stuff,but figure why not its only 350 and the reviews were good as well. I also have a Audiosource SW15 as well,but I would never forget when i had to sell my Energy S12.3 cuz I needed the money at the time and came across the Audiosource SW15. Anyways I now have the Aperion S-12 and so far on my testing i took about 3 hours to use Audssey measuring from my Denon, I wanted to get the best quality bass and accurate measure. Audssey usually measures everything to 75db on each speakers,but the sub was so hard to measure since it was so loud I had to cut off the low pass filter(cross over) and turn the volume bass down so it will trim the decibels down a bit. The results were very tight bass, very developing, sense of depth was ok. I still like the Energy S12.3 the bass was more extended and extremely deep. I still recommend this subwoofer. Its a good buy and performs nicely.

Musical and theatrical...A great woofer for both worlds. Cabinetry that any high-end furniture maker would be proud of. Deep,strong, and tight sub-bass. Best bang for the buck by far.

Just a touch slow on certain bass notes, but then again, it's not broken in yet.

Filling a huge room 25x20x10 ft ceilings was going to require one hell of alot of woofage for a throttle jock like myself. I spent a month searching on line and elsewhere for what I believed to be the best out there for the money. Along comes the Aperion Intimus 12" sub; a superbly crafted, beautiful, tight,deep and loud piece of equipment that I can't wait to show off to family and friends. Right out of the box and velvet bag this thing captured bass notes all the way down to the upper 20 Hz range with a seeming lack of effort....it's not even broken in yet! At 66 lbs this thing is a monster built for serious low-end business

I purchased the 12" Sub as part of a 5.1 system and have loved it every moment. My original sub had the same cabinet splitting problem that was described in an earlier review, however I called Aperion about it and their customer service was exceptional. They shipped me one of the newer models (the old ones were solid hardwood and prone to splitting due to humidity and heat changes, while the new ones are 1/2" hardwood over a 1.5" solid presswood core) which I received in a week, and they gave me a UPS ship tag to return the defective unit, all free of charge. The new unit is, as I said, wonderful. No splitting problems in the cabinet have been evident in the year or more I've owned it. The unit is extremely heavy, but that is to be expected from a quality Sub. Bass response is very nice... although I find that it takes a lot of bass to make the Sub switch itself on from standby. Set up was a breeze once it was in place. Overall, it's a great unit, and one that costs less than others I've seen and heard. If you're looking for something a little different, that has excellent build quality and great sound, give these guys a try.

Out of the box. Its heavy and beautiful. Very rich looking cherry wood cabinet. Found out after they shipped it that I could of gotten high gloss black( which would match better with my other stuff). So I called them and without hesitation they were gonna ship me a new blk one at their cost, from oregon to ny no less. I called them back up and said the cherry wood finish is just too nice, and im used to it already. Musically I thought my speakers were capable of reproducing good bass, boy was I wrong. I keep the sub volume at 1/3 to 1/2 like they say, depending on my mood and music, and now my listening pleasure has taken on a whole new dimension which i never knew existed. No boom at all, extremely tight bass, never bottoms out, or overpowers my jbl towers. I have it in a 27x18 foot room and could not imagine ever needing a more powerful sub. Can fill in the lows quietly or shake the house depending on ur taste. Now for home theatre, its even more impressive. Movies go from quiet to loud in a second, and the explosions (depending on sub volume) are amazing. watching star wars trilogy with this sub will make u think ur on the death star , and surely ur whole house will know about it as well. This is exactly what i was missing, was getting ready to hate it, cause I bought it blind,and they have a great return policy, but dont sweat it, all around sub for 599, this thing ROCKS!

Strong powerful bass and won''t kill the wallet

If I had to pick one, it might be a bit slow when playing some types of music.

I am new to the subwoofer game, but I am impressed with the SW-12. I have Mains: Paradigm studio/40s Center: Studio CC Surround: 12 year Old JBL 2-ways Receiver: Outlaw 1050 I auditioned other subs at specialty store, but thought that I would try the SW-12 out anyway. It seems to blend in very well with the system in both Music and HT applications. It definitely has enough power for me. You can feel the bass, and it shakes the house when asked to, but I was surprised that it can be subtle as well. The subwoofer is out of view in my HT room, (which isn''t necessarily a good thing, because it is a nice looking speaker) Friends of mine are astonished at how my mains put out such defined bass at low listening levels. Then when it gets turned up they realize that it is a sub, but it lets me know that it is blending well with the mains. As with all subs, I had to move it around to get the sound the way I like it. And it can get tiring. It is a pretty big box. Dealing with Aperion itself was as great experience, as far spending $599 goes. If I had to pick out a weakness I would say that it might be a little slow when listening to some types of music but this might have to do with placement, I will have to experiment more with it. I am a bit disappointed to hear that they are offering different finishes now and I would have liked something more of a rosewood color. But it is out of view anyway, so it won''t be too hard to live with. I decided to keep the sub and I couldn''t be happier with it.

At first I was highly impressed with this sub since it really added to the bottom end of my system. However, after about 2 weeks use a split developed in the hardwood cabinets on the rear near the amp and on the front where the woofer cone is attached. The hardwood is glued together and the cabinet split right on those lines. I called the company and they said they have had trouble in the south and west where humidity/heat etc. are a factor. They say they are working on an HDF cabinet for a new model. I am returning mine because I don't feel comfortable with the build quality but I did like the sound overall.

kicks ass. when I watch the movies with gun fire my house shakes, and that's just the way I like it!

I got the 5.1 system with the 12" sub. I can't imagine getting a better sounding system for the money. The bose high end system would never... ever be able to do what this system can do. I'm extremely happy with these speakers.

When I wrote my review for the Aperion Audio SW-12, I didn't understand the rating system. I thought the "overall" rating meant, overall subs at any cost. I just learned the the overall rating is based on the "class" or price range of the product. I need to correct myself by giving this sub a best in "class" rating of 5. Nothing can touch this product in the $600 price range. This Sub should cost aleast twice as much as it retails for. Sorry for my mistake, JJ

Let me say first of all that I've always been very skeptical when it comes to subwoofers in a 2-channel setup. I have tried many different name brand powered subwoofers on the market, and most of the time, I walk away disappointed by a sloppy, slow, boomy sounding box that does nothing but add color and distortion to what I and every other audio enthusiast is trying to accomplish. This being a natural true to life three-dimensional soundstage that possesses air and a depth of perception. Plus, most subwoofers look like an old cheaply made black box that you want to shove in a corner to hide, or at least, that's my opinion.

Now that my introduction is over, I can go on, and tell you about my experience with the Aperion Audio SW-12 Subwoofer. I ordered my Aperion Audio SW-12 from a kind and caring person that truly wanted to help me find a product that would best fit my needs. He was willing to answer all of the questions that I ask him about his product. Plus, he gave me the option of returning it for a full refund with in 30 days of the purchase date if I wasn’t completely satisfied. After I placed my order for my new subwoofer, the Aperion Audio Staff emailed me follow-ups on status of my order until it arrived at my home. The customer service at Aperion Audio is absolutely First Class. This made for a positive experience already before I even got my new Subwoofer. The SW-12 arrived at my doorstep VIA UPS in less than a week. The shipping box seemed quite adequate for protecting the SW-12 for the trip from Tigard, OR. to Athens, GA. . Now, it was time to opening the box and unpack the SW-12. I knew; when I started lifting this Speaker out of it’s shipping box, it was a very well made piece. It was very heavy and sturdy for it's size, which told me, it must be very well dampened too. I got it out of the shipping box with no problems, and I remove the plastic bag covering it. I found that the SW-12 was covered in a felt bag that fit around the Subwoofer cabinet perfectly. I thought that the felt bag added a nice touch for the customer, and it demonstrated how Aperion Audio takes pride in the quality and workmanship of their products. I removed the felt bag, and under it, I found an ULTRA HIGH QUALITY PRODUCT. The wood finish on this product is OUTSTANDING! This is something hard to find these days without busting your bank account. This is a product to be proud of and show off in your house.

OK, It looks awesome, but how does it sound? Here it goes. The SW-12 features 250 watts of power driving a 12" long-throw, front-firing driver, and in these case, it’s being incorporated into a system that consist of a Sonic Frontiers Power 1 amp driving a set of Coincident Triumph Signatures. The Triumphs are supposed to be full range speakers, and they sound great as stand alone speakers, but I thought that I was missing the boat by at least 10hz. I figured that the Triumphs started to roll off at around 50Hz give or take, and I needed to get this system closer to 40Hz to have a full sound field. The source component in this system is a Parasound CD/P-2000 Ultra a very smooth machine; I must say, and for a volume control, I used a Creek Labs passive preamp P43r.

I Connected the SW-12 to my Preamp, switched on, and played a CD. After finding the right adjustment for the high-pass xover, phase, and volume control on the SW-12 to match the Triumphs, It was time to find the proper placement. OK, I have found the sweet spot, and after some final tweaking, I was ready to listen to some tunes. I mainly listen to Classic Rock, Blues, Jazz, and some Classic Country, Although, I do like Classical music occasionally. Everything that I played through the SW-12 seemed to sound very clean without being bias in anyway toward the Triumphs. Some music did sound better than others. I got the best sound from my old Blues collection. The bass guitar rifts had a certain realism that wasn’t there before, and my favorite blues musician of all time the late great John Lee Hooker’s voice really came alive with the addition of the SW-12 in my system. There was no lose of imaging at all, and this was my main concern regarding adding a sub to my system. This sub only did what it was suppose to do, which was to add the low-end frequencies that my system needed to achieve the full sound that I wanted. The SW-12 handled my rock and country selections very well without loosing track of any difficult passages. The classical tracks, Humm, I can be very picky on those, but I can say that in this price range, It did a decent job of keeping up. Remember that this sub only cost $600. The cabinet by itself looks like it cost more than $600.

I’ll sum up this review by saying the SW-12 has got the whole package. It’s beautiful; it’s an ultra high quality product; it’s back by kind and caring people that want their products to shine in the market place, and it sounds great! All of these things can only add up to a winner. It’s a product that you can’t go wrong with. Try it, and see for yourself. There’s no risk involved. You can audition this product for 30 days, and if you’re not satisfied with it for whatever reason, Aperion Audio will gladly refund the entire cost including all of the shipping charges. That’s why I tried it because I had nothing to lose. This is a great company with superior customer service, and I hope that they’re around for a very longtime. I’ll definitely try more of their products in the future.

If you are a home theater enthusiast, looking for a sub that maintains a high level of home decor esthetic, this would, in my opinion, be a great choice. The finish is beautiful. Now the performance: overall very good. i tweak it going from movies to music (for music, i prefer a very tight, accurate reproduction, so i turn the gain way down and the crossover up just a bit to obtain more accuracy and a little more punch). it has emmense boom for movies..shakes the whole room!
