Bottom Line: In the past I had always tried to purchase systems that offered both good audio fidelity within a surround speaker system. However, with "her indoors" complaining of unsightly floor standers surrounding the TV, I decided to purchase the Kef KHT5001.2 5.1 speaker sub set & WIFI transmitter for the rears. Powered by the Sony DA5300 ES amp, connected via Audioquest Type-4 and Sony's BDP-550, I put them to task.
The sound-staging & detail they offer for their size is quite amazing. What has been particularly crucial is their overall balance, and this package doesn't disappoint. Kef's sound staging has always been good with their proprietary Uni Q technology, and is certainly noticeable in that these satellites offer crisp detail to 007 Quantum of Solace. Detail extends way beyond the speakers, creating an exceptionally wide sound field. While movement from rear to mains, often a need when watching a flim like Blade runner, offer a completely, involving experience. The sub is no floor pounder, but it does extend the bass frequencies sufficiently such that the overall quality has believable depth.
Did I mention how great this package looks? Friends (male and female) comment how "cool" the set-up looks and the Kef’s in particular, and are literally stunned by the sound quality.
In summary these speakers are a great purchase, sound fantastic, aesthetically pleasing, and highly practical. The WIFI transmitter is worth the outlay, no cables to trail back to the rears, magic!
