Excelent subwoofer. I have been using ot for the past 13 years and I am still reluctant in upgrading it.

Very inexpensive these days Quite punchy for a 8" 80w sub Lasts quite long (as long as you take care of it, infact this sub has a place in my Pc's sound system even after 8 years of use) Pretty compact design For the price, probably one of the best starter subs out there. Decent music performance.

Muddy sound when compared to modern subs. Cannot fill large areas with adequate bass. Speaker grille cannot be removed without causing permanent damage to the cabinet. Turning high cut knob above 100hz will cause sub to bottom out quickly. Turning volume to 7+ on the knob will cause sub to bottom out quickly. Low frequencies (35hz and below) will cause sub to bottom out quickly. Not that great for home theatre applications.

Well, this was my entry into the subwoofer world and what an intro it was. Granted compared to today's subs this one is quite slow and doesn't sound as deep but don't be fooled. If you can find one it would be a great starter sub for anyone. As stated before, location and room size play a big factor with this sub. As long as you aren't jaded this sub will fill any small-middle sized living room with decent bass. Reccomended settings with this sub are this: High cut filter=70-80hz Volume=5-7 on the dial. The major problem I've found with this sub is that if you turn it too loud/have the high cut settings too high the sub will cut out "emit that sort of farting noise" quite easily, especially when you get into those sub 50hz frequencies. Additional bass may be added by placing this sub in a corner or under something. Ex: I have the sub in a corner where it is enclosed by a desk/shelf and it delivers quite punchy bass, while slow it will empress someone who has had no previous run ins with quality subs. To sum up, a great starter sub for music, not that great at home theatre. This is the kind of sub you give your children so that they can venture into the world of bass without breaking the bank/thier/your eardrums.

Well after gettin this sub from my older brother....(because he bought a Klipsch reference series sub)and no longer needed this one, i have had no complaints. It does sound best in a smaller room but my room is small so there is no complaints. It is also best for movies but it is satisfactory for music. It has plenty of power and blends well with any kind of music. If you are lookin for a sub that sounds like car subs that just shake everything dont buy this sub. But if you are lookin for a sub that blends well with music and movies and performs pretty good bass in each. Then this sub is perfect for you.

I bought this aftering reading comments from "What Hi-fi". It was awarded 4 stars. I have used it for more than four years. I find many listeners' opinion are either misleading or not objective enough in the sense that they tend compare it with those having larger driver units and those of prices much higher. Some of them found it not suitable for larger rooms. In my opinion, it performs well at room size of 150 sq. ft. for less. When listening to music, its bass is not slow at all and musical. I note it is puchy and there is sufficient low frequency when I use it watching DVD. Of course, a decent amplifier is a must to make it performing its job.

It is bad for any kind of music as well as movies. The bass is not enough, and the bass also doesnt fit with the movement of the subjects in the movie. The bass is soft and always shakes in the same dull and poor way. This SW80 makes my every DVD performs poorly. I thought that my DVDs were not good just because of that SW80. It cant make solid and high quality bass.

I am now considering to buy a new one and throw that SW80 away. This SW80 downgrades my Home Theatre actually.

Oh man dont get this Sub! Its not worth it! I just sounds bad. I literally Could Fart a lower frequency than it could produce. Low Low Quality if you ask me.

Some of the best tonal quality. Oustanding crossover capability. Servo design (only one as this price).

It is only meant to be used with higher end equipment with sub-out capability. Produces excellent low end (37 hertz), but only for music. This sub was never meant to be used with surround sound movies!

This sub should be considered only if you have a higher end amp. If it doesn't the receive the signal, it won't play it. Example is the JBL and Boston Acoustics subs, as they produce deep bass all of the time (usually a monotone). This sub will produce distinct notes down to its limits (about 27 hertz). My CD's of Firbird Suite, Rite of Sprint, bass so deep my floors vibrate (12x14 room). In fact my CD player skipped on the cannon shots, when I had it as close as 4 feet. If any of the owners aren't getting good bass results, they might look at their signal processors (amp and/or cd players). Since the JBL's are famous for bass all of the time, that might be a better choice for those looking for that quality.

This sub is a huge improvement to my stereo. I have a Denon AVR 1600 and a pair of jbl hls 810s and a pair of 610s. The receiver puts out 60w and will not produce very good bass from these bookshelf speakers but after moving the speakers around and fiddling with the high cut and volume control on the sub for about 3 weeks I have got the system sounding really good in my smallish room. I only use it for music and have been satisfied with it unless I turn it up louder than I really want to hear anyway. I paid $125 for it as a discontinued floor model at Service Merchandise which means I've only paid a total of $305 for the five speakers I have. I have to wonder how bright the reviewers are who bought a cheap 100w 8" sub and are complaining that it won't knock down their house.

I've had this sub for nearly 2 years now, and although it's the first sub i've bought it is easy for me to recognise it's weaknesses.
It is used in my bedroom which is quite small yet it's inability to properly fill the room with bass is very annoying. I've tried many different positions in the room but it hardly helps, it seems the only place where the sub sounds like it is supposed to is standing right beside it.
When playing music the bass is slow and soft, sometimes sounding so dull i would rather have it turned off. Fast percussive type sounds are not reproduced very well, and it also lacks any impressible impact. Although, suprisingly, is sounds pretty good for the movies i have watched when using it.

I picked this up at a pawn shop for $110 so I can't complain about the price. Knowing this subwoofer was meant for a Stereo system, I connected to the sub output on my digital amp with a "y" connector so that I could use both channels of the amp. I have to check it out with a scope, but either the speaker is blown or the amp is clipping because on real loud low passages, the speaker sounds like it's distorting. I have to have my volume at 3 o'clock (loud) like others on this board have posted. I keep the crossover at max and let the amp do the work.

As I stated, the subwoofer was at a good price and it sounds pretty good on 5.1 surround. I may, however, be predjudiced because of the price paid.
