Bottom Line: I bought this for a discounted price. It was last years's demo model, and the grille is missing, but I managed to get a warranty extension. I bought it for, of all things, my computer. I often listen to MP3s while I am working, so I feel my computer sound system should sound its best. It is mated with a pair of Acoustic Research AR94's and an old 50WPC Denon stereo reciever. The AR94 were not particularly lacking in bass, but they could not project it very well through out the rest of my home office. Basically, if you left the room, you could very well believe you were listning to a $20.00 boom box. That brings us back to the Topaz 8. I connected the sub to the speaker outputs on the the reciever and ran the wire to each speaker. My first impression was very good. The little 8" woofer did a very good job of producing bass, but it was not overwhelming. When I am at the other end of my home office, opposite where the computer is, it gives the impression that it is in the very next room. I do not know how well it would perform in a more demanding home theatre or music setting, but it does just what I want it to.

Bottom Line: Got this to go in a home theatre system. There is a faint but present mains hum when the system is on. A real pain in quiet bits, but they are very nice over all
