Review 1 of 5

Price Paid:  $799.00 from Good Guys

Summary:
This sub sounds great. I went from built in powered subs in my polk audio RT2000's. I bought monitor acoustics silver series and it's a great match with movies and music.

Strengths:
Small in size. Incredibly sounding bass for movies and music.

Weaknesses:
A little pricey.

Review 2 of 5

Price Paid:  $795.00 from Hong Kong

Summary:
Only out of the box last night. But quickly set it up with two sets of feeding. First is by the Denon 1801 AV processor. Second is by a Sonic Frontier Line one tube pre amp. Both using UltraLink interconnects

Strengths:
Movies: had problems getting any bass out of it at first. But after adjusting the Denon processor to 10db+ from 10db-. The result came crashing to my face. I was hearing details from Jurassic Park which was nothing but a "BAMG" from the 10" Marcus sub I had. The realism in Behind Enemy lines was just not heard before.

Weaknesses:
Music: I try reproducting Eagles on the same volume and frequency (80hz) as the movies setting. Don't do that! It produced way too much bass for my liking. The sound just covered up any other musical notes within the hearing range. It also requires joggling around with the volume and frequency for classical music. If someone could tell me a easiler way to do this please advice.

Review 3 of 5

Price Paid:  $900.00 from Audio Lab, Honolulu

Summary:
After trying several different products with my Magnepan MG10s, the SPL-800 was the only sub that satisfied my need for fast, musical, articulate bass. My dealer, Tom Choy is dedicated to producing happy customers and let me live with numerous subs before I chose this one. It blended seamlessly with the MG10s, and filled in the bottom end without smearing the beautiful sonic detail the Maggies produce. It did what only a great sub can do. The SPL-800 signifantly enhanced the musical experience without detracting in any way from already great sound. Thanks Tom!

Strengths:
Fast, articulate, musical

Weaknesses:
None

Review 4 of 5

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
I purchased this product after auditioning numerous subs. My use of the sub is strictly in a music application, not home theater. My local dealer, Tom Choy, of AudioLab(a great store), lent me several subs to try in my efforts to find the speed and and musicality needed to blend in seamlessly with my Magnepan MG10s. Magnepan, another great company, told me to keep the sub small, to find the speed I would need. The SPL-800 had the magic. It is fast, musical, and delivers deep, articulate bass, without smearing the musical detail of the Maggies. Every other sub I tried was either a one not wonder, of didn''t have the speed needed to run with the Maggies. BTW, it has a 600 watt RMS amp, not a 750 watt amp. A musical bargain at under a thousand bucks.

Strengths:
Deep bass, musicality, speed, size (my wife doesn''t complain about a big ugly behemoth in the living room).

Weaknesses:
None.

Review 5 of 5

Price Paid:  $799.00 from Wright's Sound Gallery

Summary:
This is my first sub but I think I have picked a winner. My setup is BW303 for the front with BW LCR3 for the center and BW LM1 for the surround, being driven with the Outlaw 1050, video is provided by the Toshiba SD4205.

I had compared this sub to the BW subs and to a Definitive Technology sub. The Definitive Technology sub worked fine for sound effects on movies and at 350.00 was OK, but it was very muddy on music. The BW sounded great on both movies and music but the size wouldn't fit where I wanted ato put my sub. So by default I ended up with the SPL 800.

Unlike many other subs I have read reviews on I haven't had any problem with placement.............I just put in the place I had wanted it to go and it has worked great, its compact size is wonderful. The music response is very clean, you can tell a bass from a cello and timpani sounds perfect. I have a large living room with lots of furniture and had worried that a small sub wouldn't provide the power to make itself felt in the room for movies, but I have been plesantly surprised. We have thrown the Matrix, Lost in Space, Jurasic Park, and The Replacements at it and it is Awesome!

If you are looking for a sub that does music as well as movies and are critical about the performance on both being great, then this is the one for you.

I am going to go watch Blade now!!!!!!!!!!!!

Strengths:
Size, power, very clean response on music and very authoritative on movies.

Weaknesses:
none yet.

first sub ever.

The unit arrived from China well packed and everything seem to be in place. No external abuse by the carriers. The only problem was the power supply it came with. The box came with a cheap step-down converter.
