Velodyne Acoustics DPS-12
7 Reviews
rating  5 of 5
MSRP
Description: Digital Signal Processing (DSP) is at the heart of the Digital Power Slot (DPS) Series subwoofers providing less distortion, customized listening modes and the most output possible. All signal processing of this advanced, yet affordable subwoofer is managed digitally, and is controlled with a single touch of a button using the unique front touch-panel. Located on the panel are four convenient presets for Movies, R&B-Rock, Jazz-Classical and Games, as well as volume control and an exclusive Night Mode setting. The top panel of this incredibly elegant-looking subwoofer has 15 coats of high-glass, hand-buffed, black lacquer. The DPS Series consists of the DPS-10 with a 10" forward firing driver (8.2" piston diameter) and the DPS-12 with a 12" forward firing driver (9.9" piston diameter). The DPS Series subs easily outperform other subwoofers in their class in both quality and quantity of bass reproduction.

Strengths:
Great response and able to handle much bass without getting boomy.
So far no bottoming out.
Looks sharp

Summary:
finally a sub that pounds as hard as the 12" Rockford fosgate in the trunk of my car!
this thing simply rocks, i've tested it out low and max volumes for movies, music, TV shows and video games. Everything just sounds so nice with this sub its definately worth the money.

the design and box its built in looks very nice. Amplifier is high quality.

I previously bought the 12" JBL sub for $50 cheaper than this one. I took it back in a few days to try out this one instead b/c it was on sale. what a difference! this sub won hands down it can't be beat. No other sub for this price an compare.

The downside is the volume control is lacking a knob. the useless 2button volume controls are garbage and definately not sensitive enough.

This sub fills a larger room and completely blows up a small rm enough to rattle dishes in my kitchen off the shelf.

I live in the country and neighbours are a good distance away. If your planning on buying this id keep the volume down on this one.

Strengths:
Pounds very hard, clean bass, DPS modes are cool, night mode works well. Looks great. nice black finish.

Weaknesses:
annoying Volume controls, will get noise complaints if you have neighbours close by.

Similar Products Used:
Pioneer 10" theatre ina box 110w sub. JBL 12" sub 300w.

Summary:
Originally wanting the JBL 12" model but was out of stock so they sold me the DPS-12 for the same price! saved about $100.

This sub is amazing lots of power to play with and with the monster THX sub cable i got for free it sounds clean and very deep.

Ive tested it to almost full capacity and it still sounds undestorted, Even now after placing it in a room with ceiling tiles that absorb most of the bass it still sounds amazing!

I definately reccomend this sub, For the price its the best deal out there.

Strengths:
-Strong clean deep bass
-affordable price
-looks good nice clean finish

Weaknesses:
-volume and DPS controls. Just give me a freakin knob! holding down the volume buttons for almost a minute just to adjust can get annoying.
-Bright blue LED lights, brightens up the room when lights are off.

Price Paid:  $375.00 from t n t in Florida

Summary:
While I do not consider myself an audiophile I do appreciate good sound. My brother on the other hand with his B & W 803s now that's another story. WOW they sound amazing! Well back to the review of my new Velodyne DPS-12. I recently researched and decided on this sub always having heard great things about Velodyne subs. Having always used JBL subs in the past (Northridge series) can't say I was disappointed at all. For the money it blew away any of the JBL subs I have used at comparable prices in the past. The JBL subs were OK for movies but terrible for music as are the other JBL Northridge speakers I have owned. The Velodyne is less distorted and muddy especially at louder volumes and to my surprise really performed well for music. I think you would be hard pressed to find a sub that can perform like the Velodyne PB-12 for under $400!
