Summary: I purchased this Velodyne subwoofer (CT 80) back in November 2000 at the local Future Shop (Ottawa, Canada) , setting me back $500. I was assured this was a quality unit with great subwoofer sound characteristics. I used this unit 4 times (limiting this expensive unit only to worthy movies such as Saving Private Ryan, The Matrix, Star Trek IV and Heat) , and in 2004, the 5th time I powered it up, it failed to turn on. I attempted some basic trouble shooting ie: power connected, fuse) and it was a blown fuse. Replacing the fuse, it still wouldn't power up. The fuse blew for a second time, and a third one as well! It turns out there was (un-officially) a design flaw with these units, hence they are no longer sold. The warranty expired, and calls to Velodyne were the least helpful. I'm now stuck with a busted subwoofer, having to dish out an additional $250 to get it working again. Needless to say, I'm disappointed, and this was the first(and definitively) and last time I purchase anything bearing the Velodyne brand name.
Strengths: Other than its color, nothing else.
Weaknesses: Quality, price, warranty, lack of customer service.
Similar Products Used: Never again will I purchase an item from velodyne!

Summary: this is review for the cht-8, i couldn't find the right section for this sub. the store owner highly recommended this subwoofer so i heard their demo sub. i was amazed how this little sub can produce a clean and deep bass. it can match a 10 inch or 12 inch subwoofer of any brand except a velodyne of course. this isn't a boomy sub, you won't hear the bass, you can feel it too. it's good for a small room and definitely a must for home theatre. the only weakness i can tell is that it pops at low frequencies outside the limit. i saw from another review with the same problem (u-571 dvd). in my case, i got the popping sound in star wars 2 attack of the clones from the opening sequence when queen amidala's ship arrives in coruscant. the only solution i made was lower the volume. it's good for stereo music too. i agree with other reviewers, if you have extra money, get the cht-10 or 12. but this ones ok with my home theatre needs, i don't like a boomy set-up.
Strengths: clear and accurate bass from an 8 inch subwoofer. responsive and can beat 10 inch subs in it's class.
Weaknesses: quite expensive for an 8 incher. pops at certain dvds, i think it can't handle frequencies below stated on specs.

Summary: I bought this as a floor model. For only 80Ws, this sub is powerful. I have it in a 20'x20' room, and there is no way I can keep the volume up. Crisp, clean base.
Strengths: Crisp, clean base. Very responsive, and very tuneable (ie - corssover).
Weaknesses: None.

Summary: This little sub has plenty of omph. The bass is extremely tight and when crossed over correctly (about 100 Hz), sounds great with movies. If you have a relatively small to medium size room, this sub is perfect. It's small woofer size gives you the advantage of very tight and snappy bass. I also have a 15" Audio Source sub which garnered great reviews on this board and it's not at responsive. If I remember correctly, the sub was about $250 since it was a floor model at Circuit City. For what I paid, it's been worth every penny. Might be a little expensive if paying retail, though. If you like a lot of bass (and who doesn't) pay the extra $$$ for the 10" model (CT-100). The size is still small enough to be quick/punchy and you get the advantage of more bass and more power.
Strengths: powerful for size
Weaknesses: bottoms out at very high volumes
