This is a big subwoofer. I had the CT 120 in 1999 and a year I kept him then (sigh) sell it and move on to other models, including a velodyne HGS 12, a REL Storm III, a REL R-205. Finally I gave in evidence also a REL Stentor 5, and a Velodyne .The CT 120 is second to none. And in some ways it found to the best sub in for money and quality '. Films with big and beautiful too with the musicYou hear the bass up physically and also although well set is a pleasure to two channels

I bought my CT-120 at Circuit City back around 1998 or so. I was given a demo CD with some great low bass freq sounds, all the way down to where you couldn't hear the bass but could feel it in your guts. So, it does get down there. As for muddy or boomy sound, I've never had a problem. I've had this on concrete slabs, 2nd story wooden floors, against drywall and against stone walls. It's always sounded great. I keep it about 40% volume and have the cross-over matched with my speakers. The only time I ever noticed a lack of bass was when I had it against drywall with my garage on the other side of the wall. It acted like it was sitting in the middle of a room. A quick relocation and the problem was fixed. I don't readjust the settings for different CDs or different types of music. I like my music pretty loud, and it sounds just as good playing Pop and Rock as it does playing Classical or Jazz or older R&B. The newer Rap and Dubstep sounds awesome too, just can't turn it up as loud as my stuff starts moving around in the house with all the vibrations. This "new bass" is much different than what we used to hear from Run DMC or the Beastie Boys.
The rubber feet came off during one move or another and I replaced them with some little foam discs. Worked fine. I've never used spikes and have never had the subwoofer move around on it's own accord. It just sits there doing what it's supposed to do. I have been looking at isolation methods, such as carpeted MDF on a piece of foam or some brackets with rubber in them. Some reviews say that will keep your porcelain figurines standing still in the curio cabinet and should even make the neighbors happy. Gotta run to Home Mart and get some supplies to try it out. Not paying some company $60-$500 for what looks like $10-$20 worth of stuff.
All in all, I like my sub and plan on using it until the amp dies or the roof collapses on it.
My two cents,
Dan

I bought this sub with no regret and decide to get another ct120 for my home cinema system.
My system consist of a Sherwood Newcastle rds945 mk 2,and all 5 speakers consist
Of b&w speaker and using monster photo cable for both my ct120 and after some ajustment
Done to my system, and playing action pack movie like the u571 submarine, the depth charge
Explosion was lifelike and powerful there no hint of boomines
s but powerful deep bass and for Mombasa such as motorbike sound awesome and can even
Vibrate my heart.it a very strong and clean bass this sub can produce and therefore decide to get another ct120 for better and stronger low level resolution bass.I have been using for more than 10 years and still in good condition, infact it's getting better and more articulate in bass extension.truly value for money.

Best Subwoofer I ever heard, never clips and never had to use max volume, no complaints. Though I wish it had a variable hi/lo pass filter and a 1 cubic foot dimensions like the bob carver sunfire. May be for sale at
http://shop.ebay.com/systemtek/m.html?

Strength:

Nothing to write about.

Weakness:

Cheap cabinet design, vibration is a major problem. Mount loosen up easily. Nowhere to put floor spikes.

This is one very disappointing sub. Bass is boomy and loose. Cabinet design is cheap and without proper vibration control. It may be good for some low end home theater setup. IMHO the ULD series is among the very best Velodyne subs out there (if not the very best subs). If you are serious about home theater or 2-channel, get the REL instead.

Strength:

GOOD FOR MOVIES

Weakness:

TOO PUNCHY NEEDS MORE DEPTH

THIS IS AN OK SUB BUT SHOULDNT COST NO 500 TO 600 DOLLARS. YOU CAN GET BETTER AT A HUNDRED DOLLARS LESS. I HAD THIS SUB FOR ABOUT 5 YEARS AND SOLD IT TO BUY A PARADIGM. IT DOES A LOT BETTER WITH MOVIES THAN IT DOES MUSIC, NOT VERY MUSICAL. ITS ALSO HEAVY ABOUT 65 LBS AND HUGE EYE SORE.

Strength:

great quality and will shake the house when volume is cranked up.

Weakness:

hard to adjust-needs easier to reach controls (they are in back)

Okay i bought this sub used for half what it sells for retail but after all the great reviews i am slightly disappointed in its performance. Bass is hard hitting (with volume up)but fails to go low as the stated 25 hz as far as i can tell. I had planned to sell my Sony SA WM 40, but now have it daisy chained for the real low end bass.

Strength:

Excellent sub for the price. Will shake the paintings off the walls if you don't adjust it carefully.

Weakness:

No remote with preset/saved settings between home theater and 2-channel stereo use.

I purchased this sub from public auction on Ebay. Apparently the guy recently purchased it for his home theater and had to sell it because his neighbors were complaining. His loss was definitely my gain. After hooking the sub up to my home theater, I can honestly say I am very impressed with it. The CHT-120 met all of my expectations so far. There is a review below mine that states that the Velodyne doesn't have any "slam" to it. I am under the assumption that this critic is either missing part of his brain, or is suffering from hearing loss. The Velodyne packs a great deal of punch in home theater applications. I had to keep the sub level extremely low so that it wouldn't overpower the rest of my home theater. I am using my sub with: 1)Yamaha RXV-795 Receiver 2)Toshiba SD3800 DVD Player 3)Advent AS2 L/R Speakers 4)Advent Center Channel 5)Adcent AS1 L/R Surrounds 6)Monster Cable I set the crossover on the sub at 80, since the speakers begin to roll off slowly on any frequency below that level.

Strength:

relative small size. Trusted Velodyne name. Nice warranty. Good for college parties, yeah duuuuude!!! It's sick!!! *snicker*

Weakness:

Not enough output. No slam. No bass detail. Little extension. Cheap looking woofer. Entry level sub.

First and foremost, I'm giving it 3 stars NOT out of spite or because i had a defective one but i felt it was inadequate. I had great expectation from reading all these positive reviews. So i brought my Blade DVD and some other songs to the shop for audition. I popped in blade for the blade's first entrance into the rave club ie. the footsteps. Hmmm no go. I fiddled with xover and output and it's still no go hmm. Oh what the heck i'll watch this scene thru for it's such and awesome scene. The bass is there but for a certified bass junky such as yours truely it was quite lacking. I was so disappointed i tried turning up the output on the back of the sub to near max. Wow, I almost blew the woofer. That thing was working it HARD it was moving almost an inch back and forth. Yet the output wasn't there. I tried moving around the room and it was a small room to begin with. Still it was no go. The bass seemed overlly boomy and lacked any detail. I guess i expected too much from velodyne's ENTRY level sub. Yes, CHT series are painfully entry level subs. No matter what you read , it does NOT sound like subs coasting hundres or thousands more. Okay the bottom lines are like this. Extension isn't there. Frequency responce chart may show it goes to low 20's but i didn't hear sh!t. Mostly importantly, TO ME anyway, output wasn't there. SUre it rattle the shelves a bit at max power but so what? No slam. Sub seem to lack the much coveted slam factor and definition. So there you have it folks. The old say still holds true LISTEN before you buy. Picture is worth a 1000 words. Listening is also worth a 1000 words. next i'm trying SVS subs for they have great return policy. So it's like paying 50 bucks to audition their sub but it's okay. Search continues!!!!
