Review 1 of 2

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
I to have been happy with the VA 1512. Have had it since new, until recently I had removed and replace the 12" forward firing speaker/driver because of the foam totally disintegrate. Which I can except.
I purchased new one from Velodyne for $80.00.
But when I removed the 12" driver, I was totally shocked to that the 15” down firing, had no voice coil, only the metal framing with cone. It appears I have been short changed all these years.
Totally disappointed. Or I'm I wrong to assume that this unit should have had;
Firing. - 15"" Downward Firing. - 2"" Copper Voice Coil. - Massive Magnet
Please correct If I'm wrong in my assumtion
Before I would have rated this product 5 stars.
I paid $1000.00 from Circuit City as well

Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $1000.00 from Circuit City

Summary:
This sub is a Monster! It rocks! Very Loud, very clean. It is an awesome experience watching Jurassic Park and other movies with this sub. It gets very deep, no signs of bottoming out or farting. This is not servo controlled. In the case of movies that is a good thing, it is nice for the low end special effects bass to roll off thunderously. For accurate music listening, a servo controlled sub would be more accurate, but they are more expensive. A servo motor dirctly controlls the movement of the woofer in a servo controlled sub. It keeps bass very tight and accurate, and does not allow roll off. Roll off is sometimes appreciated in movies where thunder and jet engines/dinosaur growls are the norm.

Strengths:
Massive Bass!! Very Loud.

Weaknesses:
No remote control. Tough to use in an apartment(disturbs neighbors)

In my judgment the advantage of the MG 1.6 (and other Magneplars), stems from the following: = It is a full-range dipole, and = It has uses low-mass, planar drivers for the whole audio spectrum. These attributes account for its extraordinary clarity, coherence, “air”...
