from SVS Summary: I was at CEDIA this last September and saw demonstration with a pair of Contras using the last battle scene from U-571. They had the Contras located at the front of the room firing straight at the listener. Needless to say, I was very impressed with their performance.
When I got home, I decided to see if my B4s could do the same thing so I moved them from the back of the room to the front, loaded up the same scene from U-571, cranked the gain of my Theta CBII up to match what I thought was the SPL of the Contras.....and WOW!!! The walls were visibly vibrating, my chair was shaking, and my ears were overloading. I darned near got a headache from all the low frequency effects.
Since I live in a townhouse, I never get to crank the system up like I would like. In fact, halfway through the scene, the doorbell rang. It was my neighbor asking me to turn it down. He said they could feel it all the way out on their back patio. Of course, I complied with my neighbor....but not before giving myself a major hi-five!
Equipment
*2 B4s, each powered by a Crown K-2
*Theta CBII pre/pro
*Vandersteen speakers [soon to be replaced by Hyperion]
*2 Krell Theater Amp Standards
*Sim2 HT-300 Plus Projector Strengths: The woodwork on these things is really something to see. Customer Service is first rate. Weaknesses: *speaker grill is not flush with the cabinet
*They are heavy as all get out.
* If you want one, don't live in a townhouse. Similar Products Used: The Contras and perhaps the B-DEAP are the only subs I know of that compare to these beasts.
