Strength:

Best sounding bass that I have heard. Extremely tight and that give the right punch to the low frequency notes.

Weakness:

I have had this sub only a few days now and it's reliability does concern me based on some others' reviews but time will tell. This is one the reasons for buying a used piece, apart from saving a few hundred bucks.

When I first read all the prior reviews here I must admit I was a little skeptical to buy this subwoofer but now I feel I am glad I did. Specially that I spent half the original price and it's a great value at that!

The bass is pretty deep and I am now able to distinctly hear the sounds that I have been missing with all the previous subwoofers. The sound from this amazing subwoofer is very tight, fast and musical. I am using this sub as part of my stereo set-up that has a pair of B&W Nautilus 804s hooked up to my Rega Planet CD player/McCormack RLD-1 and DNA-225 pre and power amps. Of course, the sound from this sub can get really loud and is capable of rumbling through the entire furniture pieces kept close to it but I have toned it down to just sound right with my main speakers. Beyond it's sonic capability, the Sunfire subs are so small they can easily be hidden away under a side table which keeps my better half happy as well:-)

I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who is in the market looking for a sub for two-channel stereo as well as in an HT set-up.

This is the fastest most explosive sub I have tested near this price range. Had to have it. It plays music, and HT perfectly. Never had the hum that others have had.

Strength:

-sound -deep bass -compact

Weakness:

-unreliable

I bought a sunfire sub-wooofer, and the first movie I watched was tombraider. Suddenlly, I heard a loud popping nosie, and discovered that the sub's driver was busted. I took it back to the dealer and exchanged for a new one. At first, I thought it would not happen again, but after 22 months the same thing occured. I went back to the dealer and talked to my saleman and he agreeed to return it to the factory and give me the credit. I did not want to repair it because when my warrantee is over I am afraid the problem will occur again.

Strength:

Excellent subs when they are working.

Weakness:

Dependability is a real problem! Mine has needed repaired twice in less then 2 years.

This sub is an excellent sub when it is working. It is very detailed, quick, and unusually powerful. With the unusual design and power comes many problems. I have had to replace so many of these units that I have quit selling them. The most common problem is the passive radiators going out. The one I use as a demo has gone out twice in less than two years and it gets used less than what it would in the averege home theater. Sunfire's customer service is not bad, they will repair the unit everytime without hessitation.(a lot of practice dealing with repairs!) The problem is it costs $50 to ship the unit across the country. Sunfire will not send replacement drivers, they will only work on the unit as a whole. When you have to continuely send back these units your profit margin quickly deminishes. Honestly you can train a monkey to replace a passive driver. All you have to do is remove the bolts holding it in. I am very dissatisfied with Sunfire and will no longer sell or promote their products. I also sell Velodyne HGS series, similar design to sunfire but much higher quality, and have never had a problem. I would suggest buying the Velodyne if you are considering the Sunfire. Although the velodyne is a little more expensive it is definitely worth it. The Velodyne SPL series are also great subs if small size is important, and they are less expensive than the HGS series.

Finally fixed that dreaded hum. I called Sunfire with this concern and they suggested a funky set up with my coaxial cables. It got rid of the hum, but my tv reception was lacking...bad. It was only after purchasing a new TV (Sony WEGA 24") that I really put my nose to the grindstone to resolve this issue with my Sunfire and tv reception. I didn't realize that the hum with the Sunfire is such a rampant problem. All it took was a ground loop isolater to solve the problem. My system has never sounded and looked so better.

Strength:

precicsion and impact. No unneccessary reverb

Weakness:

cost

Excellent sub! Not meant for owners in apartments or in poorly wired houses. Have had 2 other subs and nothing has come close to this one. Granted weren't in the same price range, but the percision is amazing. Had to send it in, had something loose in it, got new one no problem. Is a better sub than any movie theater
