Strength:

SONY

Weakness:

9% THD

Bought for $129.00 and returned it the next day. This Sub should not be used in home theater, especially Low Frequency Effects in Dolby digital 5.1. Distortion seems to be all I could hear at mid to higher volumes. The Ultimate SW-1010 I got from ezbid.com was cheaper and a whole lot better than the Sony. Don't buy it unless it's onsale for less than $50.00.

Strength:

Err...cheap

Weakness:

Boomy, Muddy, Underpowered, Lots of port noises, Horrible transients

Wow! Nothing seems to impress me like Sony's mediocrity. I bought this "sub" to fill in some low end for my mini-system in my study room.

Junk. Frequency response is boomy, very boomy. Almost all usable output is at 45Hz, bass is non-existant under 40Hz and above 60Hz sounds worse than your average plastic boombox. Output is pathetic, the internal amp is rated at a measily 7 watts RMS (50 peak w/ 99% distortion). This sub absolutely needs to be placed in a corner to obtain any reasonable output which has the nasty side effect of making it even boomier. Transients are non-existant, this sub is extremely sloppy, there is no definition or tightness to the bass. The port causes puffing noises at all but the lowest volumes and the crossover fails to do a good job filtering high frequencies, they are plainly audibly through the port with the mains off.

Maybe one day sony (and all the other minisystem makers) will realize that a SUBwoofer is meant to produce SUBbass (i.e from 20-40Hz) none come anywhere close.

If this thing impresses anyone I have to seriously wonder if they even know what music sounds like.

Weakness:

Its not a real sub.

I bought this sub with a combination of 5 cube drivers. i will say, that my first intention was to use it in my home theather, but after listen it, i realize that maybe, i hasnt spend my money the right way. Well i have use it since then in many configuration but non satisface my. i will tell, that the last thing i do with the system is put it in mi living room because it a small place and sound ok, i said OK!, not fine or great! i give it a 5 star on price becuase i have to take a complete full theather speakers system!

Strength:

Good for the price

Weakness:

Can't handle high volumes, too boomy at times.

This sub is good for the price I paid - $ 100 Cdn. I used it for awhile with my home theater setup, it was okay for the time being. When you crank up the volume, this little sub can't take it, it sounds like it's farting or something. It is more suitable for a mini-system, or for your computer. It has both high level and low level inputs, which is good to see. It also has the capability to add another sub to it. It is okay sub for a person just staring out.

Strength:

very good sub, nice controls, lots of bass for a small space

Weakness:

nothing

I got this sub for christmas, i had been listening to many subs in the price range but none could really compare.it added lots of bass to my system, but it has some distortion at abusive volume levels, especially with the bass turned up.i would reccomend it to any one who needs bass but doesnt want to spent alot.

Weakness:

way underpowered.

These things are total crapola. It wasn't designed for HT. I think it might work with one of those mini system but as a HT Sub it just can't handle the lows. Don't skimp on the Sub Woofer. If cash is the issue, save another $99 and get yourself a nice Acoustic Research Sub. I bought this because I had to have a Sub and waiting a month until I had all the $$ wasn't an option. Boy, let me tell you, I should of waited. This thing sucks... big time. Sony should be ashamed of itself selling this thing with their satellite speakers. IT WON'T CUT IT!!!!

Strength:

Strong Bass. Compact design. Sony Styling.

Weakness:

None yet...

I've been in the dark for far too long. I had no idea a sub could add so much warmth, suspense, and depth to my system. What I thought was perfection, took a step up and beyond. This little sub has a bark twice its size! The rumblings that come out of this box just amaze me. One 6.5?! I almost think Sony is lying about what's inside. I stood in amazement as pictures vibrated on the wall, doors creak, and hairs on the back of my neck stood on end! Amazing job Sony! Very typical of the Japanese way of thinking. While most others build bigger, to be better. Sony takes time to engineer a smaller, more efficient system that rivals subs 2x it's size (And price). Amazing!

I found mine for $149, but if you looked around, I'm sure you could find it for around $99. For that much, you have no excuse not to be enjoying one for yourself. It’s opens up a whole new world! Watching a DVD with a sub is like watching a movie in Dolby 5.1 for the first time. There is SO much there that you never heard before. SO many more dynamics, so much more realism. If you don’t choose this sub, then get a sub period! You don’t know what your missing!
