Review 1 of 5

Price Paid:  $425.00 from The Audio Center

Summary:
This is a great sub with thumbs up. I mean the thing has great sound output at around only a quarter volume so there is a beast inside this thing. No worries about quality or amp yet and its been 6 1/2 years now. PSB Subsonic 3 is money well spent and you will be a happer buyer. Beats probably most subs sold in or around 1000.00. lower end subs don't stand a chance...Last but not least Amp Strong WooferSolid, Cabinet is Classy as hell!!!

Strengths:
Sound Output and Lows are ground shaking

Weaknesses:
Non so far...my windows

Summary:
I have had the PSB subsonic 3 for 5 years and it agreat sounding sub except about a year ago it started
to make a humming sound. A good buddy also bought a sub 3 about a year after I got mine and it started to hum so I sent both in for repairs and we are both happy again .

Review 4 of 5

Summary:
THIS IS A SUBWOOFER TO BEHOLD. IT IS BUILT VERY WELL. HAS GREAT FEATURES. AND ENORMOUS OUTPUT. I HAVE MINE AT ABOUT 25% VOLUME AND IT BLENDS PERFECLY WITH MY SYSTEM. TURN IT UP ANY LOUDER AND THE WINDOWS OF MY HOUSE BEGIN TO SHAKE OPEN!!! I AM ALSO IMPRESSED WITH THE FACT THAT PAUL BARTON SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO MAKE A PORTED ENCOSURE PRODUCE DEEP TIGHT BASS THAT YOU WOULD EXPECT TO HEAR IN A SEALED DESIGN. PORTED SUBWOOFERS GENERALLY HAVE GOOD OUTPUT BUT ARE BOOMY AND NOT VERY MUSICAL. NOT THIS SUB. IT IS MUSICAL AND HAS GREAT LOW BASS EXTENSION. I DO HAVE ONE COMPLAINT. A PORTION OF ONE OF MY BASS CD’s THAT IS RECORDED VERY LOW ( THE CD HAS ONE OF THOSE NIFTY 10 MHz SPEAKER DAMAGE WARNINGS ON THE LABEL) CAUSES BRIEF BUT AUDIBLE CHUFFING SOUND IN THE PORTS. EVEN THOUGH THIS ONLY HAPPENS AT EXTREMELY HIGH VOLUME LEVELS AND IS BRIEF I HAVE TO MENTION IT BECAUSE IT IS THE ONLY THING TO KEEP THIS SUB FROM REACHING PERFECTION. I TRIED THE SAME MATERIAL ON A MK PUSH AND PULL CONFIGURATION MX200 AND IT WAS ABOUT THREE TIMES WORSE THAN THE PSB. WE HAD TO TURN THE MK DOWN QUICK AS IT WAS LITERALLY HAVING A SPASM TRYING KEEP UP. JUST TO CLARIFY THAT THIS ISNT THE CD-MY KICKER 12” COMPETITION SUBS CAN SUCCESSFULLY PLAY THE DISK WITHOUT ANY VIOLENT REACTION AT HIGH VOLUME.
BACK TO THE PSB. IF YOU CAN FIND ONE BUY IT. IT IS GREAT FOR MOVIES AND MUSIC. YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED.4 FOR THE 3 AND 5 FOR THE 3I.

Summary:
Wow, I got this sub from a used audio shop for $500. It was PSB's top of the line model before the new 3i and 2i came out. 12'' woofer, 180 watts. First of all it just looks beautiful. Perfectly square with a piano black finished top covering. Well, I came from an 8inch BIC powered sub to this, and I'm just amazed at the deep tight bass that this thing pumps out. I don't think I'll be upgrading for a long time to come. I just hope the people living next to me don't think that there's an earthquake going on. And I only have it on at about a third of it's full volume!!

Marantz MA-9S2 Power AmplifierThe list above has one tenet that I continue to hold true: high powered amplifiers are necessary to reproduce the full dynamic range of music with most speakers. This became apparent when I changed from the 100 Watt per channel Bella Extreme 100 to the 250 Watt.....

The unit arrived from China well packed and everything seem to be in place. No external abuse by the carriers. The only problem was the power supply it came with. The box came with a cheap step-down converter.
