Summary:
I have worked in Pro Audio for 4 years now and I have setup a lot of sub cabinets before. I personally used to use 4 Peavey FH2 Low frequency cabinets (that is 8 total black widow 15'' subs). I was used to a lot of bass for concerts and such but never anything like that at home. When I decided to get the SubSonic 10 (SS10) I thought that I was settling for two 12s. Well I was more than pleasantly surprised. I had to do all of my setup during the days since my neighbors complained the first night. I do live in a house not an apartment and there is a yard between us!
I absolutely love the bass. It is clean and clear and very tight. The cabinet is amazingly vibration free! It is so balanced and well constructed that I have done tests with a glass of water on the top of the SS10 and played heavy bass content only to watch the water remain calm. It may shake various un-secured objects around the room but it itself remains vibration free! The construction of the SS10 is superb. It is beautiful enough that I use it as pseudo coffee table and no one ever notices. It feels as solid as lead brick , and is about as easy to move as one too. The bass is so low that it easily drops below the audible range and lets you feel everything.
If you want a sub with sheer force and power get the SS10
If you want a sub that does not distort loud low frequency effects, get the SS10
If you want to turn your space into a disco/club, you can use the SS10!
I use it 95% for watching movies and I keep the gain turned to the lowest setting and that is usually enough-sometimes it will go up 1/4.
Sometimes the girlfriend wants to party and dance, well it can really thump if you want it to - and I have never never heard it even come close to distorting. (the instructions actually say " If a slight reduction in level solves the problem,
were you being realistic in your subwoofer level setting? ".
I use the SS10 in a 30x35 foot room and it is more than enough. I would suggest it as a fantastic sub for anyone who loves nice clean bass, but if the situation requires, you can bring the house down.

Strengths:
sound is superb, tight , clean unwavering unrelenting.

Weaknesses:
size is not easily concealed, but many think it is just furniture.
It is hard to move because of the weight and size. I can only get my arms around the bottom if I put my chest on the top and heave. (it is a two person job)

might wake the neighbors - so be prudent with your gains!

not the cheapest, but still a value to me!

Summary:
War with the Neighbors-
I have been working with Pro Audio equipment for the past four years and have been desighning and testing stage setups for concerts. I was used to having alot of bass at my command and I enjoyed it. When I set out to start building my ultimate home theater I knew that the sub had to be able to perform. I was used to working with setups where I would be using 8 15'' subs for small venues and I knew that was a bit much. So I settled on the dual 12'' kevlar cones of the SubSonic 10. I thought I was settling. I setup the sub the evening I purchased it. I thought that by living in a house I could get away with doing sound tests at night and not be able to bother my neighbors next door. Well I was wrong, I had to perform all of the testing during the day after the first complaint. It took a while since I have odd reflections the room and moving the SS10 is not an easy task by one's self. Well I settled on putting it directly behind my couch firing out sideways to get the most even response. People usually think that it is a coffe table! Well it is so powerful that I keep the volume set to the lowest setting all of the time (and I love bass). A VERY interesting note about the SS10 is that it is so balanced with the 2 12s that even when it is thundering, the cabinet does not vibrate! I have put a glass of water on the top and watched in amazement that the water remains calm and flat! Also the bass can go so low that it just goes out of the audible range and into feel only mode. I know when I have not closed a cabinet completely or left a pen on a table across the room because I can hear them vibrate. For listening to music, if it is something light, I just let my PSB Stratus Goldi's do all of the work because the sub can sometimes be too much. It is just easier to hit the switch on the sub than to turn the sub gain down on the reciever. But sometimes the music just wants to thump and I can turn my theater into a disco/club with the SS10 making the girls feel it. But again I have to worry about the neighbors! Well I am done writing this review.
I love the SubSonic 10.

Weaknesses:
Size - if you don't have a need for another coffetable.
Weight-if you are small it might be impossible to move by yourself.

It made me feel like I was in WWII during Saving Private Ryan.

Summary:
This is an outstanding sub that beats even the REL and Definitive Tech. The bass notes are clear and musical and for movies it adds that extra punch that makes movies just enjoyable. I think I am going to have a hard time replacing this sub in the future, it is simply fantastci. I had many subs from B&W, Rel, Def Tech, and Infinity. By far this is the best I have own!

Summary:
Thought I'd share my thoughts on this sub after owning it for about 3 months now. I have it matched to the PSB T6s. My previous sub was a M&K MX350 THX. When I had to sell my M&K s150 system including my 350 last year it almost killed me. The thought of never hearing that sub (let alone the system) again almost left me incapacitated as I suffered from serious bass withdrawal. What a difference a year makes. When I sought out to buy a new system I knew I had to match or beat the M&K 350 or never be quite whole again as a person. I'm happy to report the PSB Subsonic 10 beats the 350 hands down and, yes, I’m whole again! The 350 is a beast and delivers wonderful “impact” for HT but was kind of hard to dial in for 2 ch because in reality it’s a HT sub first. The PSB delivers all of the bang and crash of the 350 (plus+) and is noticeably more musical and tight throughout the lower frequencies and blends beautifully with my t6s. The kicker here and the reason to buy this sub is the word “subsonic”. This sub reaches lows I never experienced with the M&K350 (if you can believe that). In fact it’s a whole other world of bass. With 1500 peak watts the PSB pushes out the ultra low (24-30 Hz) frequencies in a way the MK350 just can’t. If you’ve ever questioned whether your sub is delivering everything your source material is giving it question no more. Other than maybe the impressive Martin Logan Descent I’ve never heard bass like this. My neighbors hate me but have all admitted it’s the deepest bass they’ve ever heard. To me, having owned what I thought was one of the best subs out there (MK MX350), it’s as if some new breakthrough in subwoofer technology has occurred and PSB has implemented it in the Subsonic10. The difference is that noticeable (to someone like me at least who explores and examines every detail in their speakers through placement and source material). You can read my review of the MKs150s and mx350 sub which I posted here 5 yrs ago and see how much I liked the M&K; however, I’m back here today to crown a new king, the PSB Platinum Subsonic 10.

Strengths:
Strong ultra-low frequency response. Very musical. Fully adjustable and easy to integrate.

Weaknesses:
Big footprint and hard to hide.
