Strength:

Handles tremendous power faily easily. Extends well into the infra-sonic range. Produces a type of bass that is felt, and not heard.

Weakness:

Cabinet is too light weight. 3D MTX logo on the passive radiator is cool at first, but quickly becomes tacky. Evidently poor power amp quality.

I should note that all I am really commenting on are the drivers and the cabinet design. I bought the sub with a blown-out power amp. Some ground wire shorted against the transformer and destroyed it. But it left the driver fully in tact. I removed the built-in power amp and connected a Peavey CS-400 proffesional power amp to it (400watts x1 in briding mode). With the DDT on (some sort of distortion compensation) it sounds very good, with no bottoming out or distortion at all. Withe the DDT disabled, the amp goes in to clipping well before the sub begins to distort, but eventually distort it does. My only real problem is that the cabinet is too light in weight. Even with the relatively heavy power amp sitting on top of it it dances accross the floor and hits the wall when I get too carried away with the volume. This sub easily out performs my old, home-made sub (dual 8" active woofers and dual 12" passive radiators) in terms of max SPL, but I feel my home made unit has more precision. Then again, my old unit is nearly twice the size of the MTX, and cost me nearly $900USD to build. One thing I will probably do, though, is swap the position between the active woofer and passive radiator. The plastic 3D MTX logo on the passive radiator was cool at first, but now it just looks tacky. Just for fun (I only paid $53USD) I decided to connect it to a QSC Powerlight proffesional power amp rated for 2500 watts x1 in bridging mode. I played the Eagles Hotel California from the Hell Freezes over CD. With my Denon AVR-5800 set to 00dB and the QSC turned up all the way the sub still held its own, bottoming out only once that I could hear. Not many consumer grade speakers stand up to that test and survive. Additionally, since I have not heard one of these subs as they are comming from the factory, I will only give it average ratings.

Strength:

Remote

Weakness:

Slow woofer response

Well I purchased this sub mainly because of the remote volume control to use for home theater use & got it for about $450. Well turns out remote is pretty erartic. The bass does go pretty deep & loud but is too slow to keep up with my main speakers. As in the review by Daniel my died on me also after a couple yrs. of light use, never really pushed it hard. I was listening at a very low volume one night when it started making a crackling sound, by the time I got over to unplug it it went up in smoke....guess the fuse in it didn't blow. I guess you get what you pay for sometimes, won't get another one espeically after reading the comments on their service.

Strength:

Very powerful amp, I have maxed it out and have never had it clip once, raw clean power

Weakness:

A little loose, but what do you expect from a 15

Another great MTX product, I personally like the ps12 that my friend has better though. The ps15 goes far lower than you can hear, just feel most of the bass it puts out. Not an bit of distortion or amplifier clipping. No problems with an overheating amp either. Great Sub!!!

Strength:

shakes the house well, product is at good at ticking me off

Weakness:

bottoms easy, slow, horrible service from company, the unit is just weak

I would not recommend this sub to anybody even if your getting a steel it will probaly break and it will cost you a lot to fix it,The first day i got it i acciedently hooked it up wrong and i poped the fuse, so i leanered that you have to hook the rca's before you plug it in. I got the sub back and Used it 2-3 times a week and honestly loved it for movies but not for music. I never pused it that hard and i made sure the led light stayed off. Then one day I was repositioning it an i did everything right and i went to turn it on and nothing happened I almost threw it out the window. I live in a town with 600,000 people and i cant find anyone to fix it. I have to send it back to mtx which might take a year with there service. So the sub is for sale to anyone who wants it but not for friends or family i dont want to make enemies with them. My svs2039cs and samson700 is on order and i cant wait

I bought 2 of these MTX PS 15 subwoofers after reading a very good review on them during an exhaustive subwoofer comparison in "Widescreen Review". I use one of them on my main channel spearkers, "Clearfield Embassy/Diplomat" and the other for my rear surround speakers, "Dana model 1". I roll off the main speakers at 50 hz and the surrounds at 70 hz, high pass and roll the subs in at the samr rate, low pass. I also have a "VMPS" Larger subwoofer with seperate power amp for my low bass effects channel. The "Widescreen" review of these subs is right on the money. These are excellent speakers. Powerful and deep, with good punch and you can't overload them. One of the best things is the wireless remote volumm control that allows you to set the subwoofer level from your chair. With the level set fairly high, they kick ass on movie sound tracks. When listening to stereo music, I lower the level on the sub connected with my main speakers ( love that remote). They sound great with music. Good pitch definition and they blend seemlessly with my main speakers. I spent about $470. ea. and they really are well worth it.

First, I bought this Subwoofer exclusively for home theatre and other than casual listening have not tested it with music. It was easy to set up though I still have some tweaking to do. It effortlessly produces loud low bass volume levels in my listening area and sounds as good as units costing two or three times as much. (In home theatre use.)
It is not the most attractive unit but is not an eyesore.

It is a very good value. I feel very good about this purchase and would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

I bought this sub for $475 delivered after reading the Widescreen Review's subwoofer comparison. A summary of all subs tested is at http://www.best.com/eriko/www/bass/wsr_sub_comparison.htm. The sub was viewed as the best bargain in the testing and that it would be worth twice the list price.
After getting a headache listening to a dozen subs, I bought this by mail sight unseen. The review was right on the mark. This is a great sub that can rock a large room with dolby digital effects. I really don't think that you can go wrong with this unit. It does compare well to units such as M&K for >$1000. Without a signal generator and test equiptment it is very difficult to evaluate subwoofers. The true test is in your listening room and this sub passes with flying colors.

Strength:

It makes a nice coffee table.

Weakness:

it only lasts about a year and a half.

In feb of 1998 I purchased a mtx ps-15 sub woofer. Since I have owned it, it has made a humming, intermittently through the night if I left it plugged in. When I called about this noice they told me it was normal and to just unplug it as long as it was still working there wasnt anything they could do. So I didnt pursue it any futher. Now this is 2 years later and it has completely stopped working. I took it in to be repaired they told me it has bad foil, speakers bad and the outputs are bad. The noise might have been an indication that it was going bad or was bad from the begining since the noise was always there. They told me to buy a new one.
I then call mtx and told them the problem I was having and they told me that it would cost over 200.00 to fix the warranty was only good on that product for a year. So I then told them I would post my review on the internet they basically said it was my choice. I now wonder if I had purchased an infinity or another brand sub woofer if I would be having the same problems. I have several friends that have had their's a long time and have had no problems. When you make a purchase on a item that is not a everyday necessity and you spend a great deal of money based on the product description you expect to have it last you awhile without complications or it being defective. I will not buy another mtx product. Not a company that stands behind their product to ensure costomer satifaction.
