I've been around long enough to know M&K's history and reputation. When I found an MX200 on craigslist, I raced 20 miles to pick it up. That was 2 years ago and I'm still thrilled with the performance of this sub. Pipe organ music is outstanding, home theater performance is riveting, cd's come alive with low-end programming that few people get to hear (feel, rather). As mentioned, it requires responsibility to not offend the neighbors.

Strength:

Accurate! dynamic! and quick!

Weakness:

you must be kidding???

I don''t know why there are not more reviews posted on this sub. It is an excellent product. For sure, it''s pricey but it will probably be the last sub that you''ll ever need to buy. Previously, I owned a M&K V-125. A pretty good sub! It worked well with music and was game with movies but it''s tendency to "bottom-out" and distort in the lower extremities of some movie material left me feeling somewhat deprived and displeased. A real bass work-out like "The Fast and the Furious" soundtrack on DVD would have been a trying task for the V-125 but the MX-200 waltzed through this difficult material with precision, style, power, and grace. I auditioned several subs (Polk, Mirage, DefTech, NHT, Velodyne, Paradigm)before my purchase. To these ears, the MX-200 was the best all-around performer. My better half nearly threw me out of the house when she found out that I spent over a grand for a sub but the MX-200 has easily won her favor (as I knew it would). This sub kicks butt!!!

i have been living with this baby for 6 months now wow is this thing aewsome. had the v-125 at first nice sub but didn't go as low as i wanted so i upgraded to the mx-200.was considering the sunfire sub read an article on the sunfire and the rating of this sub was how much air was moved per square inch it was something like 280 cubic inches so i called m&k to see what the 200 was rated at the guy's at m&k had to measure it for me called back within 15 minutes with the results it was around 260 cubic inches. the average sub moves around 50-60 cubic inches so this thing just rocks right down to well below 20hz.

Strength:

Kick-ass tight, fast BASS

Weakness:

if bass is turned up too much than it is not as tight

After listening to this baby in a local music store, I looked for it online. I wasn't about to spend $1500 on a sub. I got this house-shaker for $1000 at JDS Productions. Some times I turn on the test tone on my AVR-3300 just to feel the house shake, and I do mean feel. You can feel this thing even more than you can hear it. Watching movies is pure heaven. And I never knew how important a good sub was in a system. I don't have to turn up the volume to get solid base anymore. My next speakers will be bookshelves. Who needs to spend all that money in a isolated tower when you get all the bass you can handle from a sub/sat combo. I mostly listen to classical and jazz at low volumes. I love this thing.

Strength:

Bass is tight, with good definition.

Weakness:

Price

I had to return the first delivery because the sub did not work, adding to that problem, the wood was damaged
right out of the box. This sub can really punch out the bass, using 2-12 drivers in a push-pull configuration.
The MX200 sub can definitely move the air around it, shaking the walls and rattling everything that is not
nailed down. The Bass is tight and controlled, with good definition. I have the gain set at -3db to better match
my main speakers; plainer speaker are used here. I was disappointed after further examination revealed that the driver(s) frame was stamped and not cast from aluminum. Also, the magnets are exposed. I removed the amp and noticed a minimal of components were used. The craftsmanship of the enclosure is first rate. I will say the speaker can put out allot of energy. The MX200 were not designed for A/V, instead it is meant to complement your audio system. I think it does a fine job of reproducing the low frequencies. Although, considering their price, I'm not sure they are the best choice?

I have now been using this subwoofer in a home theatre environment for some 12 months - I am still staggered at how much bass this box puts out and how low it growls.I also have an 18" JBL subwoofer in an 8 cu. ft. enclosure that I thought was awesome until I got the M&K - the M&K plays lower and louder( with both subs connected and playing simultaneously, I'm in bass heaven).

this sub is a must hear - you will not be dissapointed.

When ever i have my friends come over we can pump this baby up! My neighboors across the street always call the cops because the bass shakes their houses. My friends have the JBL's but they arn't all what they are cracked up to be. Mine defenetly has a lot more deep bass and power.M&K IS THE BOMB!!!

I have had my MX200 for several years now and have really loved it. I am a big fan of M&K product and have been a customer for over 20 years. I still have an original Volkswoofer that was recently rebuilt by M&K for a very reasonable $250. This included a new driver, power supply, output stages, and various other parts that didn't meet spec. The MX 200 is an improvement over the past subwoofers I have owned from them (Volkswoofer, 3B, MX70, MX125, and V75) but that old Volkswoofer still holds its own.The only problems that I have with the MX200 is a strong electrical smell eminating from the cabinet when really taxed. The heat sink doesn't seem to get very warm but upon internal inspection I found that the insulation was a little burned where it came in contact with wiring and electronics. This has happened with some organ recital music and VERY high volumes (115db peaks) and on various CD, DVD, and Lasedisk test disks, particularly the sine wave sweep variety. While this may be considered by some as abuse, the sub was not at its limits and still sounded quite good. Just be aware of the potential fire hazard. I have since pushed the insulation back and isolated it from the electronics.
Deep, low, and articulate is how I would describe the MX200. I have heard the HSU 1220HO and was quite impressed. With one channel unused on my B&KAV6000ii, I am more than a little interested in hearing how it would sound in my home theater room. This would allow me to place the MX200 in my audio only system to augment the Thiel 1.5's in the last octave and a half.

Strength:

Extremely deep and accurate bass.

Weakness:

None that I have found.

I have had my MX-200 for almost three years; and this sub has impressed me from day one! In my opinion, it is a perfect compliment to the M&K satellites.

Musically, it delivers tight, accurate bass; and it plays well at all listening levels. Even at extremely loud listening levels, this sub has never faltered.

In a home theatre environment, this thing is absolutely incredible! The MX-200 redefines the meaning of deep bass. Just watch "The 5th Element" on DVD and you will understand what I am talking about,

One word of caution: you may want to warn your neighbors before you crank this monster up. It will not only rumble your house, but theirs too!

I highly recommend this sub!
