The sales person at audio center told me that I would listen to many subs while shopping but would eventually choose the KEF PSW 3000. He was right. I use it with a NAD T760 receiver and B&W 602 S2 and matching center and surrounds. It blends really well with the main speakers... any respectable speakers for that matter. If you are seriously considering buy this sub, you already have decent speakers anyway. It's much more than your average boom box but you expect that for the price. I had a 12in D-box before so I was starting from a low performance system but the comparison is night and day. The 10in woofer can generate impressive lows without loosing control of the speaker. The precision of the sub allows the subtleties in bass and low ends that allow you to hear things you have never heard before. A certain breathiness and presence that is just muffled when using low end subs. CDs that I had listened to dozens of times now sounded incredibly rich. Tightnest and speed are the strong points, the rest comes from appreciating the music the way it was recorded in the studio. The cut off is around 28 hz. Of course you can get a sub that will go lower; that will make your thoracic cage resonate but the precision, you may not get. For home theater, it works very well but it may be expensive just to hear the explosions. If your primary use is music, you will definetely appreciate this sub. To describe in one word: "musical". There is nothing artificial or aggravating about it. Strengths:
It is a very musical subwoofer. It blends incredibily well with the main speakers. No strange boominess, no resonance, no undesirable effects, just pure sound. Very tight and powerful. It's a digital amplifier which means the sounds is converted from analog to digital. Digital filters and processing are applied and then reconverted back to analog for amplification. This makes it possible to optimize the physical properties of the speaker and box. Having a remote to adjust the sound from your sweet spot is definite plus. The power is more than sufficient for the average size room. The top glass finish is very nice. Weaknesses:
A bit pricy. It lists for 1600 CAD, bought it for 1200 ($800 us). Had to take it back 3 times for power supply failures. It has now been under repairs for 4+ months so as far service, there is definite room for improvement. The Audio Center was good enough to provide me with the demo while KEF is deciding whether to provide me a new unit. I would give it a 5 rating if it wasn't for the reliability and service issues. When it's working, it is impressive. It must be said that according to the service people at the audio center, I am pretty much the only one they had seen that had problems with this model. I may just have gotten a lemon. It shouldn't discourage anyone from purchasing this unit. Despite these issues, I still think it's an incredible sub. Similar Products Used:

I tried this one before buying the 3000. At 40hz, it just wasn't enough for me. But it possesses all the same qualities as its larger brother.
