Review 1 of 3

Price Paid:  $700.00 from Commercial Electroni

Summary:
I use the Kef 30B for music only. It produces a fairly tight bass, and a reasonable low bottom end, especially if the crossover is set properly. Also, it has more than enough juice for a small to medium size room. How does it sound for home theatre? I don't know, I don't have one. The adjustable crossover frequency setting ranges only as low as 80 hz. It is ideal to set the crossover at a frequency just higher than the frequency at which the flat response for the satellite speakers starts falling off. Therefore this subwoofer is probably best suited for small satellite speakers where the flat response starts falling off at a relatively high frequency. For example, my satellites (Kef 101) are flat down to 90 hz (check the specs on yours), and the Kef 30B sounds best set at just over 90 hz. If the satellites' flat response went down any lower e.g. to 70 hz, the crossover frequency on the sub cannot be set low enough. In this case, the subwoofer set at 80 hz would still replace some of the low frequencies the satellites normally handle (between 70 and 80 hz) and alter the sound one is used to, rather than enhancing it. The store was kind enough to let me demo this sub at home to make sure it worked for my satellites; it's the only way to decide. The Kef 30B is discontinued now, and if you can find one at a discounted price, it would be a great buy.

Strengths:
Fairly tight bass, excellent performance for a low price.

Weaknesses:
It lacks really, really deep bass, but what does one expect from an entry level sub woofer? The Kef 30B is mostly limited for use with true satellite speakers.

Review 3 of 3

Summary:
Adjustable level & frequency settings provides the optimal audiosetting, whether its music or movies. The KEF 30B has been in my possession for 3 years now and has always met my somewhat high standard for moviewatching. With its low weight (30lbs.), it is easy to move in order to customize the setup to meet your requirements. Always provides a good punch where needed. The KEF 30B is with its moderate pricelevel a certain bestbuy for all moviefanatics.

Strengths:
Powerfull & dynamic listening experience. Adds an extra punch and excitement to movie-watching at all times.

Weaknesses:
Difficult to adjust the custom settings, when hearing music or watching movies.

The unit arrived from China well packed and everything seem to be in place. No external abuse by the carriers. The only problem was the power supply it came with. The box came with a cheap step-down converter.
