Summary: I got this sub-woofer a long time ago, and right after my friend dropped the receiver, I have yet to buy a new one. So I re-purposed the woofer. I am driving my first car now, a ford ranger, and WOW! For any that don't know, its a very small cab, even though its the extended one. When you put it to maximum it sounds like CRAP, what cheap sub doesn't? But I have tuned it just with the two knobs on the back to shake my whole truck easily, sound amazing and have no delay! This is without a pre-amp out active, I connected the built in amp directly to the wires that go to my rear doors. Stock head unit.
What do I listen to?
Techno/Dance/Trance/Rave music. Fast thumps
Rating: AMAZING!
Details:
With this type of music this bad boy hit every beat strong! After tuning it with my stock ford head unit, no extensive modifications by any means, it doesn't have a second to lag at all!
Have I tried it on other music?
Yes, I have taken a CD of various types of music, from hip hop, pop, rap, rock and metal and put this beast into go mode. With the long droning bass of a rap song I had no problems cranking the volume and crossover, I kept it tuned well for all most of the others, so it can hit hard and drone when it needs to.
How the hell do I get good sound???
Infinity made this sub right for the price. Yes it will die out after a few years of use, yes it wont last forever, and no you cant crank it to 11 and let it go crazy. Keep it tuned in well, I have yet to need to turn the volume on either my head unit or on my sub even half way up to shake my plastic door panels.
Not bad infinity, not bad at all!

Summary: I PURCHASED MY BU-80 INFINITY POWERED SUB. AS AN OPEN BOX PRODUCT AT CIRCUIT CITY. IT ONLY LASTED 2 YEARS 3 MONTHS. SOMETHING INSIDE BLEW UP AND STARTED SMOKING, IF I KNEW THAT THESE SUBS HAD PROBLEMS I WOULD HAVE PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY.

Summary: I didn't really appreatiate this sub until I decided one day to not use it anymore. I always thought it was a mistake buying this one since I basically bought the cheapest, reasonably good sounding one I could find. Anyway, I disconnected it so I could sell it and found that I could no longer listen to music without it. Since then I've up graded my system with a high current amp, some descent wires and I'm very happy with the way my system sounds. It sounds very musical.
Strengths: great flexible controls, good bass, small size, very reliable so far...
Weaknesses: have to play at fairly loud volume to kick into "active" mode, but still sound okay at non-active mode.
Similar Products Used: none..first one

Summary: I Just wanted to say that I work on these subwoofers as an electronics technician. One word...time. After a period of time nearly everyone will fail. It will start with a popping sound, usually C6 capacitor blows up. Why? there are two resistors that get hot and over time it causes a cold solder joint which causes the problems. The same type of circuit is also in the BU120's, HTS10sub and the JBLD110's. Now, the new HTS10sub has a new amp module which looks like it has problems. Usually, one problem you will hear will be a loud popping sound but the cause is the new amp module on newly designed circuit board. I just wanted to inform the consumers on what to expect from these subwoofers. In fairness on this model and the other three, I should say after a proper repair, I have found that it is reliable afterward because I usually never see it returned for repair for the same problem. Ron
Strengths: It does have a good driver (speaker) which hardly ever fails
Weaknesses: The amp circuit board, it has a flaw.
