from hsureasearch.com Summary: For an 8" subwoofer it is awesome! This is a solidly built sub weighing more than some subs with larger woofers and more powerful amps. I have mine in a 2 channel setup with a Jolida 1701 and Klipsc Reference Rf-25 floorstanders. I got the 8" for the speed of a smaller driver. PLus the rave reviews on how low the woofer could go, somewhere in the 25-30Hz at around 100db, which is incrediable. I have mine set to 55hz and it blend perfectly and it kicks in when needed and no boom boom, just slam slam feel it bass...
Other products I have tried, Klipsch KSW 12 Paradigm PDR-10. Strengths: Excellent music and movies sub, even in medium sized rooms. Price and build qaulity. Weaknesses: Who knows, its a 300 dollars sub...can there be weaknesses? Similar Products Used: Klipsch KSW 12 Paradigm PDR10

from www.ascendacoustics. Summary: Outstanding product for the money, one of the best bang for the buck audio products I've ever purchased. I'm using it in my bedroom along side 5 Ascend HTM-200's, being fed by a NAD L73. It blends seamlessly, and is authoritative on bass heavy tracks. Perfect for smaller rooms. You absolutely cannot go wrong with this product, as long as youre not trying to fill a huge room with massive bass for $300.00. Strengths: Bass performance; clean, tight, fast, etc... Price; wow, for the money, this thing is pretty much untouchable. Build quality; extremely solid and impressive. Weaknesses: Finish; it's only a $300.00 sub though, you cant realistically expect a veneer of any type at this price level, especially considering how well it performs. Similar Products Used: SVS PB10-ISD, Klipsch KSW-15, Bose(blah....excuse me while I throw up on myself), Various other subs from the popular Japanese electronics OEM's, Sony, Yamaha, Pioneer, etc..

from Online Summary: I bought this for use in the bedroom with a Soundmatters surround processor. Bass is responsive and appropriate to the size of the room. Complemented the overall sound of the processor.
I think, for the price, you would be hard pressed to find a better sounding box subwoofer. However, mine failed shorlty after the warrenty expired and resulted in an additional $100 in shipping and repair costs.
My value rating reflects houw I would feel if the product had not failed. The Overall rating reflects the failure. Strengths: 1) Sound quality
2) SIze
3) Price
4) Customer service while dealing with the repair
Weaknesses: Qulaity of product may be a problem. HSU techs explained to me that falure rates for the product are very low. However, my failure rate was 100%. It would give me pause on buying another HSU sub. Similar Products Used: SVU tubular sub.

from HSU Direct Summary: This subwoofer is amazing for the price. The bass is deep and tight, but not boomy or muddy. The room rumbles when watching movies with deep bass like JURASSIC PARK or the STAR WARS films. Also great with music. The audiophile CD COMFORT AND JOY II(available from Stereophile.com) has a track with very low drum beats called "Los Reyes Magos", and the bass impact is deep with the STF-1. This subwoofer is a true bargain, and is comparable to subs that cost two times as much. It's musicality and precision make it worthwhile for even a very sophisticated audio system or home theater. Strengths: Musicality
Detailed
Not boomy or muddy like most budget subs
Incredible price Weaknesses: None that I can see(or hear) Similar Products Used: Cambridge Soundworks Powered Subwoofer, JBL Subwoofer

from Hsu Research (direct Summary: Purchased the STF-1 subwoofer (along with the VT-12 satellite/center speakers) for our master bedroom.
Outstanding results.
Already hearing levels to music and movies that simply wasn't there before. "Finding Nemo" has a whole additional layer of low tones that we didn't know existed. And all from a reasonably sized subwoofer. Perfect for what we were looking for.
A great, great value.
Based on the results, we've already ordered one of their larger models for augmenting our PSB-based home theater setup in our family room. (Really happy with our PSBs, too, but that's another review.) Strengths: Good solid, clean low frequency.
Relatively compact enclosure.
Great value. Weaknesses: None (although it probably wouldn't be powerful enough for big rooms)
