from Online Summary: Since the mid-nineties, I have used a Boston Accoustics CR-4 sub (8" diaphram, 75 watt amp, front firing), which came highly recommended by a trusted salesman. It has served me well for ten years, and I have no complaints. The decision to replace it came slowly due to its solid musicality. I play music 90% of the time with only the occasional movie, and I did not want to replace my beloved CR-4 with a powerhouse sub that is less articulate. I made the decision to seek out a deeper reaching sub only because of the increasing prevalence in my library of 96/24 recordings that seem able to reach into the 20-30Hz range. My Boston sub was rated down to only 35Hz and seemed to bottom out slightly on certain recordings, although it was very articulate and could still produce an attenuated response into the deepest regions. The ProSub 100TL is rated down to 19Hz. No + or - Db range is ever mentioned, so who knows what that really means, but it definitely out performs the Boston sub, hands down. I've thrown everything I have at it, and it never labors. It reproduces the bottom octave on a grand piano gracefully, and the bass strings of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra come through alive and well with lots of harmonic detail. In my 300 sq. foot listening area, it gives an impression of spaciousness, effortlessness, and profundity. I'm not sure I could recommend it for a much larger space, but in my apartment it has proven to be more than enough. Strengths: Plays deeper than slightly older but comparably priced Boston CR-4 sub. Wonderfully articulate for music, and nothing lacking for movies in 300 square foot space. Weaknesses: I was hoping it would be heavier. It is surprisingly light, but this doesn't imply anything about its performance.
