Summary: ive had this sub for about 3 years and love it. am always looking at new subs, but dont like any that were in this ones price range. was going to get a def.tech. bought a def.tech prosub200 about 6 mo. ago because i wanted a matching sub for my pf-12. after i had it in my house for about a week, i returned it because it didnt sound as good as the pf12. since definitive stopped making the pf12 (they still make the pf15, but thats only because of the great reviews that it has received by different magazines and has always been a good seller. i never found a review for the pf12, but i believe it has a nicer sound that is not as muddy as the pf15's) i couldnt find a new pf12 and looked on ebay for quite some time and finally found one. i got it for $410 + shipping and was excited about it and still am. almost too much bass with 2 running, but atleast i found another one.
Strengths: tight, clean bass. never heard it distort at all. lots of bass for a medium sized box.
Weaknesses: cant find the pf-12's anymore. can only get the prosubs now which arent as good.

Summary: Fancy writing a review of a product you've live with for 3 years.
2 weeks ago, my wall clock fell and was smashed when I was watching Pearl Harbour on DVD with the sub on. I guess that's enough low bass grunt for me.
As for music, I prefer to switch off the sub as my main stereo floorstander speakers can handle the bass very well. With the sub on and listening to Cassandra Wilson, the bass can be too over powering.
It makes a very substantial improvement though with movies. So much more enjoyable with the sub, especially with impact movies like Saving Private Ryan or Star Wars Phantom Menance.
Strengths: Can go pretty low - great with movies
Weaknesses: Not as good with music

Summary: I purchased this sub off of E-bay as I love my BP-30's and BP-10's and thought I would replace my twin 10" powered subs with one twelve. I had trouble getting the sub to sound right until I placed it in a corner and then "look out, this sub will knock you over!" The ability of this sub to reproduce the low, low frequencies is amazing. Room placement is critical, if not placed in a room correctly, you will be severely unhappy. Great for movies, must turn the gain, or bass on your reciever, down for music. I had to keep my ten inch woofers for that real "punchy feel" during movies. The PF-12 hits those low frequencies but will not give you a quick responsive punch like my ten's do. I found the best of both world's by using the ten's and the twelve.
Strengths: Low frequencies
Weaknesses: Room placement critical, volume adjustment between movies and music

Summary: I'll make this brief... This sub is the best sub I have ever owned. I have gone through many subs, all of which had the infamous bottoming out design. I like my movies as loud as the movies, and I like the punch. The Def Tech does it. I also like it for music. I found the sound great. It hit every low frequency any producer through at it. Let it be hip hop, rock, jazz or funk. It still did the job. Great sub, I recommend it. It'll impress your friends
Strengths: This review is for the 15TL Low bass, great for movies/music despite what people say
Weaknesses: bad grill

Summary: I BOUGHT THIS USED BECAUSE YOU CANT FIND THEM NEW ANYMORE. I GUY THAT I WORK WITH HAS ONE OF THESE AND I THOUGHT IT SOUNDED GREAT, BUT WHEN I WENT TO BY LOCAL DEFINITIVE DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DONT MAKE THESE ANYMORE AND THAT THEY REPLACED IT WITH THE PROSUB 200. I LISTENED TO THE PROSUB AND DIDNT THINK IT SOUNDED AS GOOD AS WHAT I REMEMBERED THE PF-12TL SOUNDING LIKE. I FINALLY FOUND A DEALER THAT HAD ONE THAT WAS A TRADE IN AND ASKED HIM TO LET ME COMPARE THE PROSUB 200 TO THE POWERFIELD 12TL. BIG DIFFERENCE: THE PROSUB 200 SOUNDED GOOD, BUT NOT AS GOOD AS THE POWERFIELD 12TL. THE POWERFIELD MODEL HAD A MUCH BETTER RANGE AND WASNT AS ONE-NOTED AS THE PROSUB. I THINK DEF. TECH. CUT SOME CORNERS WITH THEIR NEWER SUBS IN CONSTRUCTION AND DRIVERS. I WAS TOLD THAT THE AMPS WERE DIFFERENT AND THAT THE PROSUB USES A HIGHER WATTAGE AMP BUT IT WAS A POORER QUALITY ONE. I ACTUALLY BOUGHT THIS USED ONE FOR A $100 MORE THAN I COULD HAVE BOUGHT THE NEW PROSUB 200 FOR, BUT IT IS WORTH IT AND PEOPLE MUST KNOW THIS OR ELSE THE DEALER WOULDNT HAVE HAD IT PRICED THIS WAY. THOSE WHO DIDNT LIKE THE SUB AS MUCH AS I MIGHT NOT HAVE IS SET UP CORRECTLY. IF YOU CAN FIND ONE OF THESE USED, IT'S A GOOD DEAL BECAUSE PEOPLE SEEM NOT TO BE SELLING THEM AS MUCH AS SOME OF THE OTHER DEF'S.
Strengths: PRICE IS GREAT, BEST SUB FOR THE DOLLAR
Weaknesses: CANT THINK OF ANY
