Review 1 of 16

Price Paid:  $999.00 from Myer-Emco

Summary:
I have both the Definitive Technology 18TL and the 15TL subwoofers. They both put out deep, deep bass. For the Money that I paid for these subwoofers was well spent. Theses subwoofers do every thing that they are suppose to do. Power it does have a lot of power for the money. I am very happy with both of these subwoofers:

Strengths:
Power and DEEP, DEEP BASS:

Weaknesses:
None

Review 2 of 16

Summary:
please, please, please. This thing is over-rated. for the price it beats its competition only because of the price. go get the bass-mechanic cd and play test tones from 15hz up. The damn thing just chuffs a lot of air. They don't even come close in reproducing any frequencies below 25hz. what a joke. That is what you get with a ported design as they have a much steeper rolloff and just flat out suck. get a acoustic suspension sub not ported unless your fan is broke and you are looking for some air circulation. what a joke.

Strengths:
great price

Weaknesses:
very loud port in the back, nowhere near the frequency response the manual claims

velodyne hgs series

Review 3 of 16

Summary:
This is an update to my previous review. After reading David's review I crossed PF18TL very low (as low as it goes) and used it together with ProSub100. PF18TL's volume setting is at 1/4 and the result of this setup is impressive. I withdraw my comments about being musically unsuitable, since it's great provided that you cross it very low.

Strengths:
See below

Weaknesses:

Review 4 of 16

Price Paid:  $350.00 from used

Summary:
So you want to ballsack rattling bass for under 1k? Want 16hz standing waves quaking your neighbors bedroom? No need to look further. I purchased this about 6 months ago and had mixed feelings. Compared to my velodyne fsr-15 it goes deeper however, that's about it. In the first week I had my neighbor pounding on my door at 11pm because of the POLICE "voices inside my head" song. Kinda reminded me of the bat against cardboard like the reviewer earlier...but it's seriously not that bad. You just have to throttle it back and let the 18 make minor movements. It has integrated well with polks and even better with KEFs with the latter being bookshelf sized. Steely Dan and any percussion driven music is decent..just don't expect KRELL or REL.

For Movies it CANNOT BE OUT BASSED for the price period.. The matrix, Top Gun, and MI-2 will all drop testicles that have sucked up into your body cavity. Heck my girlfriend keeps saying she wants a sub now because it rocks her harder than I do.

Strengths:
Foundation cracking, Earth moving, Gut Wrenching, Slobber knocking BASS! Spectacular for HT at a LOW price.

Weaknesses:
Can be Sloppy, Usable range 16hz-50hz at 1/4-1/3rd power.

Similar Products Used:
Velodyne FSR-15, Radio Shack SW-12, Jenson dual 10 bandpass, homemade JBL 15.

Review 5 of 16

Price Paid:  $1350.00 from Digital Dynamics

Summary:
i only recomend this sub if you have a large theater room if you have a small or medeium sized room dont buy it , it will go to loud and blur your vission other then that this baby pumps out bass. it can play 20hz with super clean output, it's also gona cost you alot

Strengths:
tons of bass, verry loud and deep i got it to play around 16Hz @94dB in a large room, THERE'S SO MUCH BASS IT BLURS YOUR VISSION.

Weaknesses:
verry big and heavy

Similar Products Used:
Velodyne HGS-18

No, you can’t always get what you want. The number of loudspeakers surpassing the cost of a decent family sedan is staggering. Then there are speakers that cost as much as a house.
