Review 1 of 22

Price Paid:  $699.00

Summary:
I'll admit it when I'm wrong. I'm convinced now a high percentage of these subs have defective amps. My Sub has developed the HUM. It was fine and recently it started to HUM. GRRRR! It is defnitely annoying and makes the sub unuseable for music/HT now. I'm going to take it apart, but I'm sure it is something with a defective AMP. Maybe try and get an aftermarker sub amp. I'm looking for a new Sub at this time to replace it as it is out of warranty. I probably won't buy another BA product at this point. Hsu/Velodyne/SVS for me now. When it didn't have the Hum it was a great sub.

Strengths:
Musical Sub, tight BASS

Weaknesses:
Defective Amps in this product line. Very disappointed in BA.

Review 2 of 22

Price Paid:  $550.00 from Sound Advice

Summary:
I have to say that I enjoy the tight responsiveness of the PV800. I spent quite a bit of time looking for the right sub and this one definately fits the bill. I have not experienced the 'humming sound' (in the 8 months that I have owned it) that others refer to. The sub is great for audio or home theater use and is a great buy.

Strengths:
Tight, crisp sound. Great for music and home theater use.

Weaknesses:
Haven't really found any.

Review 3 of 22

Price Paid:  $650.00 from tweeter

Summary:
I just recently replaced my PV800. While the sound of the PV800 wasn't bad, I did not like the effect that the downward facing speaker caused. The speaker would unecessarily rattle everything in my house. Maybe it was due to the wooden floor, but I would definitely make sure you get a full return policy in case you see the same issues. As far as the hum that other reviews referred to, never heard it. It was connected to Yamaha DSP-A1.

Strengths:
Overall, the sound was good, not great, but good.

Weaknesses:
I thought the sounds was very boomy and ended up using my speakers drivers for the bass, rather than the sub for music. Also, did not appreciate the rattle effect caused by the downward pointing speaker.

Similar Products Used:
Replaced the PV800 with a B&W ASW CM. The B&W easily out-performs the BA sub, but also costs signficantly more.

Review 4 of 22

Price Paid:  $699.00 from Tweeters

Summary:
Well, I think those guys with the buzzing have an obviously defective sub. Sounds like a bad PS/AMPs from the supplier to BA. No product line is 100% perfect and to base a review on a defective product is not a fair representation of the products true performance. That being said I have NO Buzzing. I recently purchased this sub after auditioning the subs available at Tweeter. This was more an impluse buy then a studied/researched buy. Based on the sale rep and listening the the subs availabe (in the price range I was looking at) the BA sounded the most musical and tight. I really liked the volume control on the front. It was actually a very easy subwoofer to listen to and wasn't a black distortion production box. My previous college year POS sub produces more distortion than actual sound. I'm very impressed by the sub for the price. I'm still trying to find the best place for it, but I'll be keeping this sub for a long time. This sub blends nicely with my current floor standing speakers and I would definitely buy again. I highly suggest anyone looking for a great sub at a great price, look at the BA. -------- Pioneer Elite 720HD Marantz Pre-amp Marantz MA500s monoblock x3 Marantz MA700s monoblock x2 Klipsch CF-3 Klipsch KV-4 Klipsch surronds Boston Accounstic PV800 sub

Review 5 of 22

Price Paid:  $650.00 from Tweeter

Summary:
Tight, responsive bass. Really fills the room. However, very annoying buzzing sound ever since the first hookup. Very disappointing since I thought I was actually upgrading. Will go with the Klipsch line of subs next.

Strengths:
Tight, responsive bass. Polarity switch. On, off or auto mode. Volume dial on the front for easy tuning.

Weaknesses:
Size is big. Annoying buzz heard even on low volume levels. The PV-600 was much better.

Similar Products Used:
PV-600, Klipsch RSW 12
