Price Paid:  $400.00 from Dealer

Summary:
We loved this product, while it worked. Two components broke one month after one-year warranty expired. Our dealer couldn't fix it, so sent back to manufacturer. After 5 months, they still hadn't received parts to fix, so we purchased a different, lesser subwoofer for $200. So not only were we out the $80 to ship and the $400 purchase, we had to downsize our system. Now we have a less powerful unit and ended up paying $680 for it!

Strengths:
Excellent, powerful sound system.

Weaknesses:
Horrible customer service. They could not produce parts to fix unit, and could not give any explanation. Can only comment on this one unit, but it only lasted 13 months with moderate to little use.

Price Paid:  $300.00 from audio advisor

Summary:
I bought this sub for my 7.1 Athena system. F2.2 .f2s (for side speakers).center channel and rear surrounds. I also have an eight year old sub that was only sold in High End stores for $550.00 back then. When I listen to music I turn the other sub off. I do use both for movies. The Athena as-p6000 is faster tighter and cleaner. Make sure you use a power conditioner to hear how good this sub is.

Strengths:
Price.I am amazed Athena can sell this sub for such a low price.

Weaknesses:
None

Price Paid:  $250.00 from Audio Advisor (refur

Summary:
Bass comes alive with this sub. In a medium sized carpeted room, I had to turn the level down to around 3 or 4 (out of 10) on the sub, and on the receiver, down to 5 (out of 19). It's that powerful.

The sound is very clean, not boomy. This sub adds substantial impact for movies. (Note: this sub is being used in a HT system for 95% movies, 5% music.) The podrace scene in Star Wars Ep.I was like an earthquake, yet it didn't drone. The strong, distinct bass also made the opening battle scene and galloping horses in Gladiator seem much more violent. For music, the only thing I've tried on it so far was the Eagles Farewell I DVD, to which the Athena nicely punctuated the lower spectrum.

Because of its 200 watt amp (800 peak), it will most likely not be the weak link in the average HT system, and it can become very overpowering if you get carried away.

The Auto setting is completely invisible. It activates seamlessly, and there's no discernable lag.

Key things I like about the P6000:
- CLEAN, tight bass, doesn't roll on or flab out
- Extremely powerful amp, quite sufficient for a medium sized room
- The volume knob is in front for easy access
- Seamless auto mode (and it's defeatable too)

But as with any subwoofer, room placement is critical for optimal sound. My main gripe about this unit is the size. It's HUGE. It's about the size of a low nightstand. Room placement may be limited if you have lots of furniture, or have a small room. 12" is a lot of speaker to build a cabinet around, so that is the tradeoff.

For reference, this unit is being used with a Panasonic SA-XR55, speakers are JBL E80 (bi-wired) mains, JBL E10 surrounds, JBL EC35 center. The Athena seems to match well with the JBLs.

Strengths:
- Tight bass sound, doesn't drone
- Powerful amp

Weaknesses:
- Immense bulk may limit placement in smaller rooms

Price Paid:  $350.00 from One call

Summary:
I know everyone out there speak highly about Hsu and SVS when it comes to subs, and rightfully so considering that they do make excellent subs, but i own the athena AS-F2, AS-C1, and the AS-B1 and i loved them that much, in terms of timbre, performance, build quality and look for me it was a natural and easy choice to stay with the Athena's and opt for their sub.

Firstly The sub perfomrs outstanding to me. I usually listen to alot of reggae music and rap music, which are usually very heavy on the bass especially reggae music (dub). This subs perform excellently in recreating that tight yet powerful bass response. That sub literally shakes my walls, and my listening room is 14 x 23.There was enough pressure to feel that room up with ease, and i have the volume on 5 (which is halfway. I'm not sure if i should put it up any higher because my entertainment center has glass, so i'm kinda scared i break it) I think its rated at 200 watts RMS and has 800W peak, it also has a BASH amplifier. I guess thats why it sounds so good.

Intergrating it with my other Athena speakers were easy because of the SCT control i just matched the knob with my the model of my speaker and that was it, the frequency control was a breeze, it also has the frequencies listed in case you don't have athena speakers,

it was excellent so far in the movies i tested it on including, Blade 2, Saving Private Ryan, U571, and Jurrassic Park.

I also use it while i'm playing videogames and it works like a beast as well, i have absolutely no regrets, and so far i love them.

Strengths:
tight and responsive bass
well defined bass
good volume pressure
easy intergration with Athena speakers

Weaknesses:
its relatively big
my cousion thought that it was a safe.

Similar Products Used:
i tried a klipsch sub-12
and the JBL E250P
