Review 1 of 2

Price Paid:  $80.00 from Vann's

Summary:
Using the Mirage Omnisats version 1 as secondary pair of speakers for stereo music I have these attached to 8 foot ceiling with speakers 5 feet apart and 7.5 feet away from my listening position. I am also running a pair of JBL nd 310ll (2-10's,4"mid and 3/4 laminated titanium tweeter. I also have a pardigm 10" pdr10 subwoofer and my receiver is the JVC vbk 9010 which has the usb Burr-Brown encoder built in.
I use this set up along with my Mac G-4 computer to play my collection of mpg's.
I had bose 201's that I replaced with the omnisats and I must say this is quite a
substantial improvement in the sound quality. Keep in mind, the omnisats have a 1' titanium tweeter and 4" mid driver very similar to what I have in my JBL's and so far they seem to be pretty well matched. I never knew how badly the bose 201's sounded until this change in setup.

Strengths:
Very good overall sound.

Weaknesses:
None that I can think of considering the price I paid for these speakers. $160 for the pair of speakers

Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $400.00 from Vanns.com

Summary:
i was looking to replace my currrent home theater set-up, that consisted of five Jamo speakers,(with a HSU subwoofer, as well as the Jamo sub) which were high in the WAF aspect, but sounded somewhat inadequate overall. I am acclimated to the sound of Magnepan speakers with the soundsatge that they set forth, as that is what is in my main listening room.
During an internet search i found the Mirage Omnisat for 80.00 oer speaker (from Vanns and Amazon). I was intigued by the Mirage (in regard to the claim of the soundfield), but had never heard it in person. I am ashamed to say that i went to the locl Best Buy/ Magnolia to hear what the Omnisat sounded like (i' ll get back to the part about being ashamed a little later).
I was very pleasanted surprised by the sound of the Omnisat, as it was quite open and encompassing, though they did not seem to have a great deal of depth to them (as compared to the Maggies for instance), but then again the main purpose is for HT, and they made a very enveloping sound as far as HT is concerned. During the listening period (The Incredibles) I was not aware that there was not a sub activated for the initial portion, as the tiny satellites had adequate bass output (I prefer an honest bass, not what passes as bass in general). obviously with the Mirage sub in place it created the entire scope of the audio, but for casual listening, or dialog driven films a sub would not be necessary. In a nutshell, I was sold. Now the oart I am ashamed about... instead of purchasing this year's model @ 250.00/per speaker, i order them on-line (last year's model, the difference being the cabinet material, such as the plastic). So for 400 dollars i was able to purchase five speakers (and 40 dollars for the dedicated stands), that along with the HSU sub make for a system that is amazing for HT, easily comprable to anything under the 2500.00 price point.
I have watched films since the moment I hooked them up and the sound is wonderful and engrossing ( and seems to be getting a little smoother as they break in, especially in the top-end). Dialog is clear and upfront and the other speakers give a big soundfield and a pretty good sense of space (and the Omnisat's are great as a surround speaker as well). I have not been this pleased with a purchassse since getting the Maggies some 20 years ago.

Strengths:
Very spacious soundfield, but focused when necessary. Adequate bass (70 Hz or so) for casual listening. Easy to integrate with a subwoofer due to the ability to get down low enough. While not the same WAF as the Jamo's, they are not to obtrusive (they do look a little 'space-agey').
For what I paid i would be hard pressed to find anything coparable for 5x the amount.
Overall the Omnisat creates a nice enveloping sound that is suitable for a medium- sized room (my theater space is about 600 square feet).
A break-in period seems to be a must (to even out the top end and sweeten up the midrange)

Weaknesses:
Somewhat diffused at times, they lack a little precision when listening to orchestral music (though I am not asking them to do this a lot, the main utilization is for HT).
Not the most beautiful design (as far as aesthetics, but when the lights are out, the sound makes up for the appearance right away)

Similar Products Used:
Jamo speakers, ocassionally I bring the Maggies down to see what they sound like (impressive, but too much floor space taken up, not so much in the WAF department either).
