from Circuit City Summary: After using my RCA 50W/channel surround system for 6 years, I decided it was time for an upgrade. After listening to many different sat/sub systems (Bose, Infinity, JBL, Polk) and reading the reviews, I settled on the RM6700 system with the PSW404 (10", 200W) sub. The system sounds great in my 12x14 family room and the sub is more than enough to fill the room. The PSW303 had to be turned up to 3/4 volume before providing any noticeable base whereas the 404 is set at 50% volume and I can hear it in other rooms.
Music and movies sound great paired with my Pioneer VSX-711S receiver, but the center channel is slightly less crisp than my previous JBL N-Center II (dual 5", 3/4" tweeter). The lows on the JBL, with a 5" vs 4" woofer, were better and the voices were clearer with the JBL, but with a few adjustments on the receiver (+2dB output to the center), the output was clear and the voices could be heard over the music/effects tracks.
Overall, after 1 month, I am very happy with the Polk system and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a midrange sat/sub system. If you have a few more bucks to spend, step up to the RM 7200's, but stick with the PSW404. For the price it is one of my favorite subs. Strengths: Strong sub, great range, reasonable price Weaknesses: Center channel is not as clear with voices and lows as the JBL N-Center II
